Garage Gym - The Summer

Wow, the first summer since I moved into my own place hit this weekend.

I cracked open the garage door at mid afternoon after one stinkingly hot morning, and in a scene reminiscent of the ark of the covenant being opened in Raider’s Of The Lost Ark, it hit me. A wave of heat and stink from another world. The carpet spontaneously combusted, the roof beams were curling up and the paint was running down the walls.

Those were the good points.

As I edged my way down towards the squat rack the temperature increased exponentially, the rack was sizzling away nicely, and sweat from many an hour was seeping up from the core of the bench fibres.

As I crouched under the bar, it slid like mad upon contact with my back, and my glasses steamed up in the jungle-like atmosphere.

Still, I thought to myself, it could have been much worse. I could have been in an air conditioned commercial gym, the biceps and chest boys in full swing, and that would be unpleasant.

This is my life. This is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in my garage. Moving larges amounts of weight in 90+ degree weather with humidity at 90-100 percent each time. Water just oozes out of my pores just standing there.

And I love it. It makes me bigger, stronger and leaner each time. Every day is better than the next.

inspiring…

I’m in the garage club as well. Very, very hot. Totally a new level of perspiration.

(I grew up in Lakeland so I know the hell a Floridian garage in Summer can create.)

Then you know exactly how those days are! LOL!

I can’t complain though. I love it. And I’m making gains like never before.

I also am a member of the garage gym club. I live in Phoenix. It was 112 degrees yesterday as a high, and still 109 degrees when I was training at 7:00 pm.

I have a couple big, industrial fans that blow the hot air in my garage around, but it really is not too bad --at least not once I start sweating. It is a dry heat, after all. I considered getting a little portable cooler or AC unit, but I quickly acclimated and I think the fans are enough.

As long as I adquately hydrate, my stamina and strength do not seem too effected.

It may not be the most comfortable place to train this time of the year, but I echo the sentiment that it beats the hell out of training with a bunch of meatheads in a commercial gym. Besides, I enjoy making my neighbors think I am crazy.
