I’m not saying the guy is perfect. He’s a very flawed character, I agree, but that’s what makes him a great character. Everyone loves Ned Stark, but in reality, he’s probably the furthest from a real person.

And of course, I am sure that you, just like me and everyone else on this board and everyone who has read the books and watches the show, are an infallible human immune to any sort of indiscretion.

I’d like to think that, while fallible, I would avoid throwing a kid out a window after he caught me fucking my sister. That said, I agree that he’s a great character. He’s rapidly working his way to the top of my list.

Yea- I don’t think they can continually put out episodes as great as the one from 2 weeks ago. This past one was great in that it filled in some of the story and put people into Jamie’s head.

Did anyone else have trouble hearing what Jamie was saying? Like it seemed very mumbled. I’ve had to crank up my TV b/c for some reason HBO Go off my Xbox isn’t very loud.
I had to rewind and turn the subtitles on during that bath scene.

Well of course. But keep in mind that “Westeros” is a much different place, and much more callous society, than the one we live in. While these things are terrible to us, incest was a regular occurrence (Targaryens did it all the time) and death was so commonplace it’s sickening.

Not justifying, just pointing out.

Ok. So it’s not just me. I feel like there are some scenes where the dialect seems to interfere with what we can understand. Like talking too fast for comprehension

I can’t remember a lot of the names so bear with me on the following question.

It’s about the kid that banged the whores and they paid him for it because he was so good. Is this relevant in any way or just comic relief? They mentioned it a couple of weeks ago in 2 straight episodes.

No spoilers please since I didn’t read the books. Just wondering if I missed something and am curious why they kept referring to it.

I do not remember that from the books either but I am sure that it will play a part at some point. I am sure little finger will find a way to snake his way in with that. I do remember hearing that the show was going to take some liberties with this season/book 3 so maybe this is one of them and will branch off into another plot point from the book?

This season has been great. The last episode, like others have said, was not as exciting as the last one but had some MAJOR plot points in it with the revealing of the true Jamie and the King in the North be-heading the Karstark (sp?) bearded gentlemen (cannot for the life of me remember his name) and now he needs to obtain forces from the Freys. Not to mention Tywin laying down the law for The Halfman and the Queen Regent like they were still little children and setting up some big things. I very much enjoyed it.

I so look forward to hearing aids.

Not because you can turn them up, but because you can turn them down.

well…it was really the only way he knew to NOT end up being executed for treason considering he was fucking the King’s wife when he, himself, was A.) not the king and B.) a member of the King’s personal secret service and had taken a vow of celibacy.

It’s quite possible and understandable (however repulsive) to have taken that course of action.

But, yes, he is also one of my favorite characters. I remember trudging through Feast for Crows and looking forward to his chapters (Cercei’s were fucking brutal the first read through … but the second and third read throughs were a lot more enjoyable).

While it obviously doesn’t excuse it. He didn’t have all that much choice… had people found out about him and Cersei, they both would have been killed.

Ser Davos would probably give Ned a good run for the money on the “infallible” front.

Someone also touched on this point earlier but in regards to point B, it seems like the writers are comfortable with unburdening the Kingsguard of celibacy as they completed removed the other Tyrell brother from the story line and now have Sansa and Cersei possibly hooking up with Loras. I don’t know how much that alters things in the future but I know that Jamie’s chapters in book 4 reference the obligation of the Kingsguard. I see the writers kind of fudging that portion up a bit.

Definitely was not that way in the books and I am interested to see if it truly becomes a plot point.
Smashingweights wrote:

haha. I remember thinking someone would chime in about hearing aids when I first posted that.

On Jaime: Don’t forget the guy also killed the guy he was in cell with in order to escape. As the Joker would say: “even to a guy like me, that’s cold.” I agree he’s one of the most accomplished character on the show, and he brings that extra “I’m a bad guy but I’m not that bad”, and it’s cool.
Anyway that’s one of the strength of the show, realistic cahracters with weaknesses, pasts that have great influence on the show and not only white knights in shiny armors.

On the infaillible guys, Ned Stark and Ser Davos: well I think those guys are not unrealistic. Nowadays we are used to Liars, Cheaters and people crawling and putting their pants down for anything (think about Politicians, lying to us, then making their amends and telling us “oops, I did it again, but I promice I won’t do it again!”), but there are (and there used to be more) people that believe in things and who are straight as a stripper’s pole.

Think about the Samurais (ever read the book of the Samurai? Best non religious book in my opinion) or even about guys like Malcolm X (I know, controversial, and no I’m not black, but you have to admit the guy was straight as straight can be, and that’s probably why he got killed). So those guys tend to die quickly, and are totally unfit for political life, but they stay on their course. I like that and I think they are part of this world as well.

Gotta love the old Tywin Lannister, the old Fucker knows what he does, and his way of punishing his old kids with poisoned rewards is just excellent. Gotta say, he’s the only one really standing, and his kids are a fucking shame overall. Well OK, the dwarf is not bad but in love with a whore and hoping he can marry her? Come on, a guy of that position (the concept of “high-born” makes me sick) knows he can fuck whores, maybe have one as a mistress, but officially marry her? No way.

The one that makes me sad is the Targaryan bitch in the sun; I like the character, but she plays soooo bad it makes me cry. She has always the same expression on her face.

Why you doing the EMT-B?

As of right now, PA school aspirations have to take a back seat. I didn’t get in this round and I took a huge hit financially trying to get hours and experience and I had to go back into a non-medical field to get back on my feet. I figure I can work my day job, jump on as an EMT to continue getting hours and more importantly hours that I think will transfer well and give me some real world application NOW as opposed to just being a MA somewhere.

Additionally, after working with some PAs and hearing their complaints daily, I’m almost wondering if I would be better suited to climb the ladder elsewhere and get my fix as an EMT.

I may have taken rejection a little rough too but I’d like to think I am just re-assesing some things.
