Gaining Weight on 1000 Kcal Diet

Hi!

I’m a girl eating after the guidelines in the Massive Eating athicles.

I eat 1000 kcal/day but im still gaining weight.

What could be wrong?

I don’t exercise but i do use my bike and so. im about 110 pounds.

that’s pretty unusual. how often are you eating through out the day to make up the 1,000 calories?

How are you following an article called massive eating, and only eating 1000 calories?

typically anything below 1200 for females is considered starvation as it becomes near impossible to meet all nutrient needs.

why are you only exercising on a bike?

simple answer, unless you’re a midget, 1000 calories isn’t enough

You could be starving to death and your organs don’t have enough energy to regulate your water levels.

I’m sort of exaggerating but I’m sort of not.

You’ve either made some bad calculations in the Massive Eating plan (RMR and activity levels) or in how many calories you’re getting per day (portions, wrong foods).

Don’t believe 1000 calories and gaining weight.

Maybe that’s 1000 calories from food? If you drink your calories that could contribute

Were you eating less than 1000kcal a day before? If so you are rebounding from a concentration camp diet and I bet nearly all the weight you are gaining, regardless of training is LBM.

ill eat that in a single meal

i am sure about the calculations and also make sure to eat healthy fats, lots of protein and only veggies and fruits as carbs.

i have had some eating disorder before. can that have any influence? actually i feel that i eat more than i usually do on this diet, but i thought that i would loose weight anyway because i eat much more healthy than before.

and the 1000 kcal are spread over 6 meals

Ok not to turn this thread into a Dr. Phil episode, but do you think it’s possible that you are underestimating the amount of food you are eating? Most people with eating disorders never truly get over them. The mental aspect of eating and worrying about what you eat can be a lifelong struggle. It is physically impossible to gain weight on only 1000 calories a day, well once you are at least 8 years old that is.

And why are you following a massive eating guide if you want to lose weight? What are your exact stats- age, height, weight, BF% guess, etc. You need to ask yourself if you even need to lose weight. If you’ve previously had an eating disorder I doubt you are qualified to make that opinion or likely ever will be your entire life. Simple truth.

that’s not even 200 cals/meal.

if you’ve had EDs before, you’ve likely wrecked your metabolism, as well as lost lots of muscle.

If you’ve been currently eating 600 cals/day from an ED, and bump to 1000 cals, it could lead to some weight gain.

but, is the weight gain, water, muscle, fat etc?

I’d recommend staying off the scale if I were you b/c of the history of ED, and focus on eating the healthy foods you are, and possibly increasing your calories slightly over the next few weeks.

Also, you never answered why you don’t exercise

i weigh everything i eat so im sure about the ammount. im following the guidelines because i know that it is a healthy way to loose weight - good fats, much protein and only low GI carbs.

I am 175 cm, 19 years, 62 kg, 19% BF.

The gain is fat - has gone from about 17% to 19% BF.

What will happen if I slowly increase my calorie intake? -and how much should it be increased?

i don’t exercise because i thought eating less would be enough?

troll. how did your weight change from 110 to 136 (62kg) ?

because i don’t know the exact way to convert kg to pounds

multiply kgs by 2.2

I think you need to see a specialist in person and perhaps stay away from the internet as long as you recover.

recover from what?

Troll.

I hate to point out the obvious… ^^^^ hint- look up there.

With a screwed up metabolism just eating “less” isn’t going to do anything. You actually should probably be eating more to help fix it. You actually will gain weight if you continue to starve yourself. At 110lbs you should be getting at least 1500 cals- and that is on a weight loss plan.

Your BMR is likely around 1800 cals, even if you don’t work out. You should start upping the calories and build some muscle. You’d be surprised how much better you will feel.

I also hate to break it to you that you did not gain 2% BF because I can guarantee that you are not using a reliable testing method. It’s likely a variation in testing related to water weight gain or your menstrual cycle.

I don’t think you’re a troll- just uneducated and probably still a little screwed up from the ED.
