No, it was not. I’m not just talking about Instagram/YouTube influencers. I’m talking about the entire fitness, supplement, and diet industry which has been around since the 50s. They have marketed through magazines and television for decades, pushing magic pills, powders, and exercise equipment that supposedly melted fat and/or built muscle.
Everyone has seen those ads where a muscular person let themselves go, and thanks to a pill (Hydroxycut being one of many) they got back into shape. That is one reason people believed muscle turned into fat. The idea was pushed constantly through ads and marketing. How else would your grandmother come to believe that? It is not like she was watching a bunch of shirtless men go from muscular to fat on her own.
It also came from the belief that steroids built fake muscle and when you stopped using the muscle turned to fat. That idea was pushed too.
Lies are pushed all the time.

I am happy to have the legitimate advice and support of anyone who wants to come along. Guys posting pictures of donkeys and dropping biology 101 references out of sarcasm can and should find better shit to do with their time. Nothing motivates me more than being told I can’t do something. I am going to try something crazy: work hard, work smart, let my body guide me physically and nutritionally, and keep a journal.
Well, then, there ya go; apparently we’ve managed to motivate you enough to put your plan into practice.
Btw, this is a great board. You shouldn’t take things too personally as many are posting not only for you, but for the community.
Now start your log and we’ll all support you and/or guide you if needed.
I agree, but I also think there’s this mid-range body composition where we don’t have to be “all-in” one way or the other. Most of us probably live here a good portion of the year, where we can lift/ condition pretty hard, adjust calories slightly up or down, and aren’t in a pure cutting phase. Even as I read my own ramble, I’m not sure I’m explaining myself well since I also believe you can’t ride two horses with one ass.
Basically I liked how @RT_Nomad put it: he went after muscle and strength without being sloppy fat (beach lean). I guess my issue with a lot of folks’ interpretation of what we’re saying is that either you are eating like a squirrel and too weak to pick up a pebble or you’re chasing sumo wrestler dreams in an attempt to add a little muscle. I think we can pick a definitive goal still within a tighter range of body composition/ “sacrifice”.
I think that’s what everyone else is saying, too; just trying to clarify my point.
Those things i posted had nothing to do with you but the resposes to other posters.
Those being the donkey and the kreb cycle remark.
Now if i called you a idiot and personally attacked you or something thats one thing.
That is how things work around here and always has. You will see side conversations on threads that isnt always directed to or about the origional poster.
Matter of fact 10 years ago on here people would be brutal towards you.
Matter of fact i even said it was possible for you to see a change in your comp depending on your experience level. At no point did i say you couldnt. Matter of fact i hope you hit your goals.
What exactly did i say that was bro? Hate to break it to you im probably on the low end of the Bro spectrum. If anything im a old tired gym veteran who doesnt take this shit seriously anymore. (At least not online)
Case in point if you want ill put you contact my oldest son who is finishing up his actual PHD in human and exercise physiology. Ironic isnt it.
Im sure he would give you a advanced physiological breakdown on the question at hand.
So if you are thinking “Bro” because i said i didnt care about a study. Im familiar with how they operate. One of my sons duties was evaluate the validity of research studies along with being published himself.
The fact of the matter is the approach your taking might not be the most optimal at this point .
But if you can loose significant body fat and gain significant muscle while being in a caloric deficit ( no way around that) more power to you.
If you want a short answer to if you can build muscle and fat at the same time. The answer is " It depends "
You still havent mention a exact goal other than i want to build muscle and loose fat. No i want to loose x amount of body fat and gain x amount of lean muscle gains.
Which is leaving many confused regarding what your thought process is.
Normally i would apologize if i come across the wrong way or when im wrong. As many who have been on here have seen in the past. But in this case i think ill pass .
Like i posted above we have side conversations on these threads which doesnt always invoulve the orginal posters.
Just talking amoung ourselves. Apparently people that are new might not understand that.
I admit I can come across as a grumpy asshole Sometimes intentionally sometimes not. BUT we both know how it was back then. Hell im a ray of fucking sunshine compared to some back in the day.
Ironically I got 270 g of Protein in and 320 of carbs really based on nothing more than listening to my body, not over stuffing myself, i tried stopping at 240 but it was asking for more so i fed the beast
I’ve never seen recommendations below 0.4 grams per pound except during shorter dieting phases or at the end of a prep. Usually it is 0.4 to 0.6.
An intake of 0.25–0.30 g/lb may be enough to prevent hormone levels from crashing during a cut, but it’s not optimal for full hormonal function or long-term health.
