You gain weight by breaking muscle and consuming protein to rebuild them stronger. It has nothing to do with calories. Calories are a measurement of energy. Take too much and your body stores it as fat which you have to burn off by creating a calorie deficit. It’s that simple. [/quote]
Ummmm… yeah, what you said. I mean, you do seem to be the bodybuilding expert, and all.

Ok then Mr.Future Universe then why the hell are you asking questions on here?
Every wonder why your not growing? Hmmm not enough calories, i can bet my life if u started eating 4000-5000 calories a day with a good traning routine you would put on size.
This is a bad troll.
Anyone who knows to put bodyweight, hight, daily calories and body fat percentage along with their post should know a little more about training and diet and also be bigger.
They would also know that that physique is not worth rating.

This is simply amazing! Calories have nothing to do with building muscle, you’re right. Dexter Jackson won Mr. O by drinking water, and consuming 300g of protein a day, that’s it.
You don’t want to be in calories deficit at your size. You need to eat more. You’re 18 for god’s sake, so you need to eat a lot. Also, starting doing starting strength or madcow’s 5x5 or something like that and your forearms, biceps, and chest will get bigger.
Also, read this website. Read everything, because you seriously have no idea what you are talking about.

I suppose it doesn’t matter if I don’t gain muscle straight away though, if a calorie deficit was the cause of not gaining muscle mass. I don’t believe it is, I’m just saying. Right now I just want to be as cut and defined as possible with a strong core.

Cutting won’t work for you. You have no muscle to show. There is no way to build muscle mass with a calorie surplus. You are basically saying that you can build a brick house without any bricks.
If you are in calories deficit, than any protein you have will be used as energy and even some protein in your muscles will be used for energy. That’s why people generally lose a little muscle when cutting.
Please read the site. You came here to learn, so do that.

Post of the year. You’ve set the bar high for 2009.

You are in no position to lecture anybody on proper nutrition. I’ve seen tapeworms drop out of my cat’s ass with more mass than you.

I’m tiny compared to you, maybe. However in general, no I’m not. Plenty of people at work are smaller than me. I don’t see how where you live could be that different.
Besides, like I said, I DO want to gain some more muscle mass, hence the title of the thread. 10-15 pounds of it would be wicked.

Where do you work? Legoland? Santa’s grotto?

The point is, you should not be dispensing advice on gaining muscle when your whole routine revolves around forty push ups and nothing else.
I’m not even going to bother commenting on your views on diet. Your ‘results’ speak for themselves.
I don’t want to be 290, I just want to get to about 140 because a little bit more muscle mass will help improve my balance and increase my strength. If I don’t gain too much more (I only want 10-15 pounds) I should be great. 140-145 lbs at 5’6" isn’t bad at all.
