I am a natural lifter, and since my wife and I found out we are expecting our first child, I have consistently been gaining weight. Diet has not changed, I have been tracking what I eat since before she was pregnant, and have been continuing to do so. Maintenance ~3300 cal. Exercise and training routine has also been consistent. I work from home, and therefore am around my wife nearly 24/7. Google suggests her hormones are effecting me. Is there any way to counteract these negative effects?
Seek immediate medical attention, as you are the most extreme outlier in history, and the world will benefit from the study of your unique case.
All that said, what is your height and weight?
Most common things to improve testosterone are sleep (that’s the biggest one), sunlight exposure, healthful diet (not just counting calories, but food quality), hydration, low stress, regular physical activity (not just an hour or 2 a day in the gym, but actually moving around, walking, being active), avoiding alcohol and recreational drugs and also stimulants (coffee and energy drinks).
Her hormones aren’t doing anything to your body.
What’s your height, weight and age?
I hope your kidding?
Idk if you google “pregnancy hormones effecting men” apparently it’s a thing.
Age: 32
Weight: 207
Height: 5’ 9”
If you google “pregnancy hormones affecting men”, you’d get better results.
But also, if you google “flat earth”, that’s apparently a thing too.
You started at 190lbs at 5’9? What kind of lifts were you performing at that height and weight? There’s a fair chance you were in a less than ideal hormonal state before this began.
I gained some weight duringbthe womans pregancy too.
Look out for xeno estrogen and chemicals that convert test to estrogen.
Basically avoid eating and drinking from plastic cups, switch to glass. Don’t use black nonstick cookware, especially of its chipped or worn. Switch out plastic spatulas for wooden spoons. Don’t use a plastic cutting board. Etc.
Consider supplements like Longjack (like Biotest Omega Man) that limit aromaization.
Of course, also be careful that you’re not eating tons of high calorie snacks and desserts.
Your talking about Couvade syndrome ?
Yes, it mildly raises your estrogen and lowers your testosterone.
You can start running test and tren to counteract this during your wife’s pregnancy, or you can just stop eating like shit.
Yes I was 190 at 5’9” before wife was pregnant. Lifts have gone up since I have gained weight
My incline bench has gone up about 25lbs to ~325 for a 1rm
Great advice thank you
I think it’s, unfortunately, likely your maintenance calories are nearer 2700.
I would agree with that
This phenomenon is real, and as much as I hate to admit it - it affected me to a noticeable extent during my wifes first pregnancy.
There’s good evidence that testosterone drops when a guy becomes a dad, and the drop may begin as soon as he learns his spouse is pregnant. Here’s an article about it. It’s very roughly a 240 ng/dL drop based on studies.
But you’re probably overeating a bit, too, and under more stress (even if it’s positive stress).
There does appear to be something to Couvade syndrome, but it’s not an official medical diagnosis.
If that’s what you lift as a 5’9” man, then your physique and body composition must be amazing, even with your undesired weight gain.
My physique definitely leaves something to be desired, despite having been consistently in the gym for 14 years now.
Impossible to believe for someone incline benching 325 at 207#.
I remember feeling the same way.
Spending many hours a week in the gym for over a decade and still not liking the way i looked.
Then i started getting serious about my diet.
I look for excuses to be shirtless now.
