Future Music

Skip all the rock and metal heads, anybody know some hardcore rap thats good for getting amped up in the gym. These new t-pain/akon \w fill-in-the blank rapper songs are cool, but I don’t want to dance with weights. I need something angry like DMX, or original Wu-tang.[/quote]

It is hard to top MOP when it comes to angry rap. Get on iTunes and grab whatever tracks they’ve appeared on, their actual album kind of sucks, but all their guest appearances on various Gang Starr Foundation tracks are on point.

(note: the album on iTunes is what i mean, they’re older stuff is still banging)

LCD SoundSystem

The first video from their new album - Sound Of Silver

Atleast they speak some sort of message

lcd ss nice !

this is my fav vid from that guy

have you seen “thou shalt always kill” from dan le sac VS scroobius pip ? they seem heavily influenced by lcd.

i love this vid, especially the bit on the copy machine. check it out !:

TV on the Radio is first time I felt music in a few years. It’s a group of guys from Brooklyn that pierce your mind. They bounce their style between spoken word, rock, and doo-wop. The subtle falsetto voice harmonized with a lead voice is haunting.

Sigur Ros is a shoe-gazing group from Scandinavia that will blow your mind. Literally, all of the lyrics are gibberish it isn’t even a real language. It?s very atmospheric music.

Damn, I can’t believe that nobody has mentioned Clutch yet. Clutch continues to evolve and do their own thing. Consistently refreshing IMHO. I just seen them live with Five Horse Johnson and Dub Trio. The last band also being very impressive.

But seriously, Clutch kicks major ass. Check 'em out.

For those into R&B, Fantasia’s latest release as well as Musiq Soulchild and Joss Stone are all worth downloading.

For some reason, I really like “Baby Making Hips”.

What do you think of Nikka Costa? I just heard of her today after learning that her album “everybody got their something” was produced by many of the same people involved in D’angelo’s Voodoo(one of my all-time favorite albums). It’s a pretty good album, some really heavy grooves, but it has yet to grow on me.

I’ll look into it. I haven’t heard it yet.

Nikka Costa is great. Definitely worth checking out. She has shown up onstage with Prince a time or two.

Championing genius? Hardly. He’s talented. I respect talent.

Go question my manhood somewhere else.

I’m not questioning anything.

I just don’t like you.

One artist I’ve gotten into since I saw these videos on NewGrounds:

Is Akira The Don.

Plenty of free tracks, does plenty of stuff from straight rap to pop to rock.

so far, talent wise, popular music has only degenarated as of late.

we had the big band swing, jazz and blues, which eventually branched to talented rock (led zepplin, eric clapton etc) which degenerated from a much more musically complicated blues base to 80’s pentatonic rock (though i’ll admit i’m a fan) which then degenerated to grunge consisting of three power chords and four single notes per song and now we have bands with computers who do most of the “playing” for them.

hopefully there will be more of a talent revival with future music, or we will be reduced to super repetitive beats and weird synthesizer noises generated by computers.

but, i guess we already have that and call it rap.

Any recommendations for bands that have a musical sound like Killswitch Engage but without the typical metal yelling?

fu manchu?

I’m in with Frank Castle’s suggestions

Mr. Lif
El-p
Cannibal ox

These are the only artists that are current that have been playing in my headphones as of late.

The new Nine Inch Nails is incredible. It is a huge pre-gym album for me right now.

If you’re wanting something softer, more indie-ish, pickup Feist’s ‘Reminder’. She is a really talented songstress. I really enjoy the soft, jazzy feel to her music. She also has touches of folk and indie rock in there too.

It’s really atmospheric and a lot less complicated than most stuff I like. More feel than technical. She doesn’t use a lot of bass guitar, instead there’s a lot of piano. The pianist is hitting a lot of simple E’s though, so it creates a nice bassline.

Keep in mind that this is coming from a huge Rammstein/industrial/thrash/death metal fan who loves the heavy basslines that make you wet your depends, shredding guitars and machine-gun double bass and fast, technical playing.

I love you, too.

Scars of life is a lot like Linkin Park, but less mainstream, and with different song structures/tones, and no rapping.

I just revisited this thread cause there were a few suggestions I missed. I realized i never linked to a free album, and its still up.

http://www.adultswim.com/williams/music/defswim/index.html

completely legit, virus/spyware free, etc. Its a Def Jux compilation album, which gives a good cross section of their artists and its actually good. theres another link to another free album on that site as well somewhere…
