Thanks for the warm WB! Things be pretty good. The arm? Meh. Between the ART and the PT I’d have to say that the PT did more for it. But by then it had been so long that maybe it was just starting to get better on it’s own? I dunno. Hard to tell. It’s not 100% by any means and it feels like if I push it too much and too hard it will relapse. But its more functional than it was a month or so ago, which is to say not at all.
I’ve done a couple of upper body workouts … holding my breath if you know what I mean. Hard not to want to dig right in. But I don’t want to screw up and wreck my chance to get back into the groove. So far it’s been OK. Frankly, it’s a major relief just to be able to do anything again. For the first time in 3 decades I was starting to wonder (with dread) if the end was in sight. I found myself making all sorts of empty promises to God. “God, if you’ll just let me train light, I’ll be more than happy to live with that.” Yeah, right! You know you’re full of crap. The minute you can do one little thing you’re gonna start pushing to do more.
sigh
So that’s about where I am. Rearing to go, but having to putter around and wait for the green light. Bought myself a sweet little Trek WSD road bike. I’ve been tooling around the rail trails on a hybred for about seven years. I shoulda bought a road bike six years ago. I love it! I started looking up rides in my area and they all have names like, The Seven Hills from Hell. The Roller Coaster Ride. Mt. Doom Loop. The descriptions read: Several long, steep climbs. Rolling hills and several brutal climbs. Very hilly. Needless to say, I’ve had to cut back a bit on my leg/posterior chain work. But bike season only lasts so long. Pretty soon it will cool off, the bugs will be gone and I’ll start itching to get the horses out again. Plan to go tomorrow, in fact.
BJJ and Muay Thai are out. Not without a lot of thought though. I’ll miss it like crazy, but I’m not going to sacrifice my ability to lift by doing permanent damage to something in a class I’m taking for personal enrichment. Nope. Funny, how all it takes is one serious injury to see where your loyalties lie. Lifting is too much a part of who I am to gamble with that kind of risk. Obviously, I could get injured lifting or get hit by a bus or … well, you know. But still. I know how hard I play and I know that if I continue with BJJ and MT, it’s only a matter of time before something ugly happens. It’s just the nature of the game. If I was a couple of decades younger my outlook might be different, but I’m not. End of discussion.
I have a bit of reading to do to catch up with everyone here. A few tweaks and injuries aside, it looks like most are doing pretty well! Proof that us old coots just keep gettin’ better!

Yeah, I think you are being wise. You will meet a lot of older guys who still love Judo, but who don’t train because the injuries finally got to them.
great to see you training again.
I like E no longer can roll, play Judo on any kind of regular basis, wrestling-
even coaching long out the door.
Glad your training again, mine seems to be on and off again- Im sure my training and work
has lots to do with it. Varies week to week, but is making progress.
