Before X tells you that his current training is irrelevant to this arguement I’ll say that splits EVOLVE.

In my experience, when training splits didn’t work for me, it was because I wasn’t developed enough to use them. The stimulus (load) was far to little to merit the rest days for splits (e.g. 3 way). I was recovering, overcompensating, then going back to what I was before by the time training for a muscle group came around again.
In my opinion, people who still have a lot of strength gains to make (and so their recovery is fast), or people who don’t make their training intense, need more frequent muscle group training so that their muscles don’t return to homoeostasis.
Obviously, if we’re talking about advanced lifters using a specialised full body routine (where fatigue is managed)…the above statements don’t apply.
WHY do you think like this? Why do people suddenly think muscle groups are worked INfrequently on split routines?
WHY do people think that split routines are only for advanced lifters?
Who is writing this bullshit and why do so many of you believe it?
If I am in the gym 6 days a week, you really think my muscles are being worked “INfrequently”?
WTF??
I’m just going by what most people think of when you say split routine (it doesn’t usually mean doing, say chest, more than twice a week)?
How often do you train muscle groups in general?[/quote]
Gee, DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY??
For people who seem to think not training muscles directly equals still working them…why are they so lost on the concept when it comes to split routines?

I mean directly…have I hit a nerve or something? lol

Well said. I started training doing 2-3 body parts a session. Most body parts were trained directly twice in a week…which is fucking plenty unless some of these people think muscles don’t need to recover. My shoulders are not only trained on shoulder day. My biceps are not only trained on the day I do biceps.

I think you missed my point…and yes, you hit a nerve the moment you, someone who was just asking for advice, starts giving it while showing they are just repeating what they read somewhere.
I usually train at least one body part twice a week and the others once. That has NOTHING at all to do with this discussion unless everyone else here also matches my level of strength and size.

You type the word “mentor” more often than X types “retarded.” lol
By the by, how many times are you guys going to have this same discussion with THE SAME IDIOTS?
These threads are for fucking around and mocking dankid, not serious response.

I’m sorry for the way I came across (like I think I’m “Mr Know It All” just because I read one book or something)…but that’s not the case. I said that from personal experience, when I first started, training most my muscles directly 3 times a week was necessary to get me to the level where I could make better progress on a split routine that had me directly working muscle parts about twice a week.
Not getting too big for my boots, I think this is pretty basic stuff which is being made needlessly complicated.
I thank you for you’re advice on the other post I made by the way. I don’t feel it’s wrong though, for me to give straight forward advice to someone who’s at where I’ve been…just the same as I asked the more advanced lifters for advice; for someone who’s been where I’m at to think outside the realms of my training blunder.
The advice which I got was:
“don’t do all 12 sets in a workout to fucking failure”
Which is just what I needed to know. LOL

Hahaha. Wow beans , that couldn’t be any more appropriate.
my goodness! i go away for a day or two and this thread turns into some kind of monster… to any who responded with constructive criticism, thank you. to those who resorted to condescension, insult, or otherwise, i truly feel sorry for you.
believe you me, i am suffering under NO ILLUSION WHATSOEVER that i’m some sort of “huge bodybuilder”… i’m seriously beginning to wonder whether or not some of you are even literate… perhaps you just saw the photos and, like the ignorant, arrogant, bullying lemmings that you proved yourselves to be, just decided to try to tear me down instead.
i mean, by my estimation, i’m one of the few people here who’s actually put his money where his mouth is and put it all out there (photos, stats, etc.) i’m not trying to hide anything from you, here… and the reason i’m being so forthcoming is because i was truly hoping to be able to have some semblance of an adult conversation about weight training and aesthetics with people who allegedly cared about such topics.
the plain and simple fact of the matter, though, is that SOME of you sound more like the third string of my old high school football team (you know, the ones who never made it out of remedial math, stayed back once or twice, never saw any playing time, yet STILL thought they were god’s gift, for some reason?)
i really don’t know when or where things got so fucked up in bodybuilding… if any of you have ever read anything written by some of OUR HEROES, you’d realize that you’re truly a disgrace to the sport.
i’m gonna go get a haircut now.
tom petty, out.

Delusional. Who “tore you down”? Tearing you down is what you call pointing out that you don’t have much muscle?
Tearing you down is asking why you aren’t bigger after four whole years of lifting?
That isn’t tearing you down.

Thank God…
Word to the wise: when you want an adult conversation, try not calling people names. They typically don’t go hand in hand.
I prefer to avoid adult conversation on the interwebs myself…

invalid. Many posters here, have pictures of themselves in their avatar, and many of them obviously much much larger and stronger than you (to the point you dont need to ask for stats or other pictures)
what have ya got?

This man knows what he’s talking about.
It’s counter productive for a new lifter to wait a whole 7 days to directly work a lift that hes trying to get stronger on again = bigger. Most guys will REGRESS during such a long period between performing the same lift again and struggle to add weight or reps to progress from workout to workout. I know for a fact when I started lifting, the weights I was using and the intensity I was generating pretty much never needed more than 48 hours to recover from, waiting any longer is just wasting time.
I think the advice of bodypart 3x a week as a begginer then backing off to say 2x a week as the weights get heavier and you are using more intensity, therefore probably need more recovery time, is pretty solid advice.

Third-party objective onlooker, here. Been lurking the fuck out of this thread.
You’re missing one vital idea. You can’t tell 225lb+ men that your training method works better than theirs for gaining muscle if you’re only 150lbs after four years of training.
You can, on the other hand, tell a 150lb man that your training method works better than his if you weigh 225+ after four years of training.
And I’ll just tell ya that for the longest time, I had a hellish time trying to gain mass. In the past year and a half, I’ve added at least 35lbs of muscle to my frame (hooray for noob gains!) and I’m now benching what I used to deadlift.
How??? By following the advice of the big men that you are arguing with.
