This is just an idea I had and wanted some feedback.
Could you potentially use the advanced 531 progression in place of the regular 531 progression, and augment the “accessory” work ever so slightly for the FBFB template outlined in Beyond 531?
It would look like this for the very first day of a new cycle:
Squat: 5x5 75% TM
Bench: 3x5 75% TM instead of 3x5 65%, 75%, 85%
Deadlift: here I was thinking either 3x3 at 75% or maybe 1x5 75% TM instead of 3x3 65%, 75%, 85%
Perhaps the other 2 days, I could do a 3x3 on squats at 75% TM, too, just to keep myself feeling fresh.
Or could you just plug in the advanced 531 rep scheme and still ramp up on bench and deads? I feel like either way could work just fine.
My thought process, or maybe lack thereof, is that I just prefer this progression of 531 because going for rep PRs all the time kills me, and I like not having to worry about the deload week. However, I am also someone who misses squatting 3 days a week, and would love a way to use both of these templates together.
I don’t know… this could be a completely HORRIBLE idea, and I may get 1000 people telling me to just do the program as written… but if it’s not, let me know so I can try it out, haha!
