Fuh-Fuh-Fuh-Flax Oil -- Cheap!

For those of you who are lucky enough to live near a Whole Foods Market, I just found out that they now sell their own “generic” house brand of flax oil. The cost? $8.50 for 16 ounces! Woohoo! No more of this dollar-a-serving crap! Now, if only we could get Biotest to follow suit (sigh)…

um…how much are you taking for a serving??? i add 1tbsp to each shake…

And biotest is NOT expensive for what you get! Why do people pay more for a Ferrari (my dream car, but insert your favorite here) than a Ford (sorry, only ‘cheap’ car i could think of…yes I have owned one)? better car, better put together, more dependable, works better. both get you where you want to go, but one gets you there in style. Quality costs money.

Given the delicate nature of n-3 lipids, I’d be concerned about the quality of any generic brand. At the very least, one should ensure that the oil was processed in the absence of light, heat, and oxygen, and that it’s contained in an opaque bottle (or package) that was flushed with nitrogen prior to capping. If the container doesn’t state the preceding criteria, don’t assume that they were followed. Further, like Michelle, I’m curious as to how you derive a cost of $1 a serving.
