Fruits...Eat Them or Not??

Like Tom Platz said: “… people just don’t get it. They keep asking me what I do for my legs. I could run up a hill and my legs would grow. That doesn’t mean they could run up a hill and their legs would grow.”

I can’t believe this is still going on…

Maybe its not your goal to be huge or even big but most of us here have a goal like that in mind.

Its a BBing form, people posting here should want to look like bodybuilders.

If however gaining lean muscle and having good cardio are your goals, I would recommend Shugarts forms rather than these ones.

Most guys here simply want to be tanks, bigger muscles etc. Thats why were here and not posting in say the Olympic forms.

Anyway, Modok, I challenge thee to a duel. Shall we say fruits at dawn?

lmfao at downplaying someone being bigger than you like its some kind of coincidence that the person is. clearly if someone is 30lbs heavier at 3 inches shorter, they dont have any type of experience in the game and should shut up about things they dont know about because “we arent cavemen and being big doesnt mean you know anything”

isnt this a BB forum?
I don’t think a person being big necessarily means they “know” any particular thing. There are too many factors, and too many examples of big guys giving bad advice, to safely assume that, just because a guy is big, you should listen to him about one particular topic or another.

Thats not to say you shouldnt listen to the advice a big guy gives, just dont do the “He has big arms, he must know everything” worship routine.

Like Tom Platz said: “… people just don’t get it. They keep asking me what I do for my legs. I could run up a hill and my legs would grow. That doesn’t mean they could run up a hill and their legs would grow.”
I can most assuredly tell you that I do not have the genetics of Tom Platz. But its funny that you mention Platz as your example of a genetically gifted bodybuilder doing the same routine as the less genetically gifted and just growing due to his genetic superiority. Look up his leg routines sometime, they are the height of non-traditional leg training… he did a little more than run up a hill. Jut reading his routines make me nauseous.

The point of “listening to the big guys” is not tha they know more… it is that they’ve got the practical experience. If you’ve never been stuck at 10% body fat with a show 6 weeks away and HAVE to make the fat % go down NOW or be embarrassed on stage, well you just haven’t been there. A situation like that requires thinking about these details, digging in the books, and figuring this stuff out scientifically. There are no diet books or placebo-controlled trials for the above scenario. A standard dieter gives two shits about whether he’s at 10% or 8%, he just wants abz. Bodybuilding is and will always be where the “doctoral level” nutrition conversations take place out of necessity. And the big guys who have been in the laboratory for many years are the “research scientists” of our little hobby. Thats really why I give a little more credence to what they say in regards to advanced nutritional concepts for fat loss/ muscle gain.
I used the quote from Platz just as an example of people using the “He has big legs, he must know a ton about leg training.”, not to suggest anything about his leg training (I’m sure it was intense).

And I agree that experienced bodybuilders certainly do know their stuff - but that doesn’t mean that stuff applies to everyone, all the time. The bodybuilder in your example would use techinques designed to lose bodyfat as fast as possible, knowing post contest he could get back to a more moderate diet. The standard dieter wouldn’t benefit from trying to put those techniques into action in any long term sort of way.

There’s also a big difference between an intelligent, well read, seasoned bodybuilder and someone who is just a big guy. The real problem is when you see people listening to someone who is 6’5" and naturally pretty muscular as though he must know a ton about training.

That is exactly what I said(or meant to say) in the previous post. The average dieter doesn’t care or need this type of advice. And I wouldn’t waste my time typing a post to an average dieter. People can get to 10% doing anything. However, I will point out that this is a bodybuilding website. Therefore, unconventional dieting topics are fair game for the reasons mentioned previously.

The learning from this debate is invaluable, where else are you really going to get this kind of information?

And I was thinking more along the lines of melons at dwan, big juicy melons!

I’m not trying to start an argument here, but is this a bodybuilding website? I just mean, there are forums for bodybuilding, combat, conditioning, V-diet, sex, etc. And articles about olympic lifts, TBT, and other things that dont fall strictly under “bodybuilding”.

I’m just saying I think the scope of this website certainly includes bodybuilding, but is not limited to just bodybuilding.

No one said this is EXCLUSIVELY a bodybuilding forum. Just that on a site that has a significant focus on bodybuilding it is very appropriate to dieting strategies used by people who want to get big and lean. Since there is no nutrition strategy appropriate for every type of person (endurance athelete, speed athelte, bodybuilder, powerlifter etc) they can all be discussed. And when someone is asking about fat loss, the most relevant method/approach is a bodybuilders method (for obvious reasons that dont need explanation).

Capped and Plan It… what do you look like?

You’ve been a member for 5 years and seem to have lots to say about the subject so I’m curious to know what you look like/what your stats are?

Actually

sounded like a pretty broad statement implying that everyone posting here "should want to look like bodybuilders

Sure. No arguments here.

I disagree. The method/approach a bodybuilder uses isn’t going to be optimal to everyone looking to lose fat.
