Is that Vanilla Ice executing a perfect chin block?
I donāt have an opinion on the topic, but canāt stop watching that gif!
Every time I see the guy end up unconscious, all I can think of is āI did nothing. The pavement was his enemy.ā
Yeah thatās him. He was like:
āWe sampled it from them but itās not the same bassline. It goes āding ding ding di di ding ding⦠ding ding ding di di ding ding.ā Thatās the way theirs goes. Ours goes āding ding ding di di ding ding⦠DING⦠ding ding ding di di ding ding.ā That little bitty change ā itās not the sameā.
Turns out the guy in the red shirt is an hardcore Queen fan and wasnāt having any of that.
āSAMPLE THIS MOTHERFUCKER!!!ā
Itās a great video Iāve posted on here before from youtube a while back - some guy was talking shit to a bouncer at a club in some eastern european country and the bouncer got fed up. The best part was him talking shit with his hands in his pockets.
The gif is fun, but it doesnāt really do it justice.
The slap sound is crazy, and the sound of the guyās head hitting the pavement is pretty gross. The guy then rolls the other guy into the recovery position and walks away. Itās nuts.
I just get too much of a kick out of how his hat takes off. zzzzoooooooooom!
Like it knows what happened and wants nothing to do with it.
Itās probably pissed at its former owner for talking shit to a dude twice his size while having his hands in his pocketsā¦
Might have saved his own life by doing that. Had he come up with hands up or moving it might have been his soul getting knocked out of him instead of just the hat!
Iām saving that video, among a few others, to show to my sons when theyāre old enough to be out and about. So many lessons in it:
A guy used to striking can near take your head off before you can even blink.
The ground will not be your friend when you land on it backwards unconscious.
You donāt need to make a fist or even draw back to lay someone out.
Once within striking distance, keep your damn hands up, even if in the palms-out, take it easy stance.
Aaaand, numero uno, shut to fcuk up and walk away.
Back on topic: I miss Paul C. I think he has written a LOT more good stuff than bad stuff. He does however, get very dog-with-a-bone over some ideas. Best to just leave him have those and get your own bone.
Wow, I guess I missed it, but Iāll tell you from personal experience first, front squats made a huge difference for me in bringing up my quad development. Like a lot of people, I back squatted for years, moving a ton of weight, and my hamstrings developed as did my glutes. Eventually, breaking with old-school dogma that didnāt have as much scientific validation as you would think, Iāve put back squats on the back burner, and made real progress.
My brother, who is a DPT, CSCS, Olympic weightlifting coach, and Lord knows how many other certifications as he works with professional athletes from almost every sport, always maintained that the traditional back squat was more of a poster chain movement, and thatās why you will see so many heavy squatters with overly developed glutes. For bodybuilding, this is less than ideal.
If you look at the series of photos from Paulās contests (theyāre online, not just the one perfect pic he puts on his IG, but a whole series of them giving an honest appraisal), you will see a less than ideal bodybuilding physique, yet his glutes stand out in terms of size, to the detriment of his overall symmetry (in my humble opinion.)
Not a dig at him, merely pointing out that people who love squatting (usually those who can move a lot of weight), will always push its positives. Not everyone can step back and be objective, especially in this sport. I used to love dead lifting because I fancied myself pretty strong in the gym I was at. When I started competing and found out that none of the Competitors I looked up to actually dead lifted, because it wasnāt the optimal way to develop the physique they were pursuing, I put my ego away.

I havenāt done enough experimenting to know if front squat makes a big difference in quad devlopment for me (research seems to indicate so), however, front squats do feel a heck of a lot better on my back/wrists than back squats. For that reason alone they are worth doing.
I think as with most exercises, it depends on the individual whether or not it will work for you. I personally feel it quite a bit in my quads when doing from squats. I train primarily for strength when using them so when talking about hypertrophy, I canāt say I have first hand experience.
