Yea, I was a bit surprised. I was up at 3:30 and it did take sometime to get motivated. Once I got going I kind of developed a flow. By the time I was done I felt good. Thank you for stopping in!
I kept time to :00:30 +/- seconds between sets. It elevated my pulse, though I failed to check my pulse.
I think my BP was low. I started taking meds again yesterday. This morning I was a bit light headed. There are three nurses in my family but I cannot get one to check my BP.
I forgot to mention on Saturday, I finished another log. I began a new log this morning. It is a Nextnoid Workout Journal. More space plus room for notes. Not counting my 3x5 spiral bound notepads, I have finished up three journals. I prefer the Nextnoid journal to the one I completed.
I need to go to the first journal, which I think I started recording Total Gym workouts. Then I switched to Soloflex + free weights. Of course now it is just Soloflex. Underneath the poor diet there is muscle + strength. Not to mention the strength gains I have made post COVID, which I will no longer belabor.
I have been reading the posts concerning gyms, trophy wives, and I have a trophy wife husbands. To each their own. Personally, I think as we evolve as adults, and have stuck with training, our needs change (physically and emotionally). I am entering the quality of life stage. I want to look good of course, but active and functional, is as important. Ellington Darden’s Living Longer Stronger and Kenneth Cooper’s Start Strong Finish Strong are worth the read. Though if you follow me you know I have a rough time keeping up with Dr. Cooper’s aerobic suggestions.
Good job today! Sorry that your BP is acting up. Hoping that the medication gets it under control. I have one of the cuffs that auto inflates that I got from Wal Greens and it seems to work well.
I’ve been on BP meds since I was 18. I’m 53 and I STILL remember the lightheadedness when I first started. Like having a headrush constantly. Hopefully that resolves itself quickly.
This is weird. I finished my journal (that was the same one you used before) this morning and ordered a new one. I couldn’t find the same one, and the one I ordered looks like your new one. I guess there aren’t really that many options, but it’s still weird.
I think it is just habit. A remnant of my Nautilus days. Also the workouts and timing I based on the Soloflex infomercials. I do not time my time between sets as often anymore, but it steps up the process when I do. It is also a hard habit for me to break. I cannot explain it other that it is what I do?
Just like this morning. A head rush. I did get a bit dizzy during my session. Then napped. That is weird we end up with the same workout logs. I only started buying them because I can’t write small enough anymore and use the 3x5 note pads. I have a few of the 3x5s stuck in drawers.
My hand was shaking on that first picture. I tried again. Better the second time.
I have been putting the stop watch to good use. Good being relative I guess. Once I get past the vacuum, time between sets sticks close to 30 seconds. The bench press and front squats kicked my duff. I wanted to lay down, but I had approximately a 5:35 AM start so I hit the shower and prepared for work instead. I listened to The Life of Greece by Will Durant while I worked through today’s session. I finished Our Oriental Heritage. What a life’s work, 13 volumes of history and philosophy. Some of Durant’s work is outdated, but still a good listen.
Thursday I need to start using the neck harness. My vertebrae in my neck are starting to age like the vertebrae in my lower back. I want to keep my neck strong to hopefully compensate for the coming stenosis.
I did feel strong this morning. As much as I wanted a Monday session, that extra day’s rest made a difference. The super-set last Saturday with assisted pull ups and dips worked me more than I thought. I want to find a good super-set for Thursday. I am thinking seated presses and pull-downs. If my shoulder does not protesteth to much.
Having started taking my water tablets again I am starting to see muscle separation in my shoulders and chest. All offset by my somewhat embarrassing mid-section.
I still need to eat, I think a protein shake should be fine. I have cut back on the fatty food and my indigestion and reflux have improved. I believe my cutting back to water and indulging less in Coke has helped lessen my reflux in the evenings. There is a direct connection.
Rain and wind warnings today. I hate the wind. Plus a 5:00 PM appointment for the GSDs for shots. Though probably not needed, we muzzle my workout partner. Another reason to get this session in this AM instead of trying to squeeze it in after herding our herding dogs.
I’m curious to see how the neck harness works out. I have my own neck issues so I can sympathize. I may be heading towards surgery in the near future. We’ll see.
I thought I would share my pre-workout. It was $11.95 for a can, now Amazon has jacked up the price to $17.95. Bastards. I think they track orders and when they see a pattern they raise the price. Though I am not sure that Chock full o’ Nuts is one of those brands true coffee lovers dig. But, it gets me going.
Then I decided a picture of my least favorite gym item, my stop watch, would fill up the page more. It is old fashioned, but something about that click. It helps keep a good pace for me through my sessions. I have a tendency to space out occasionally. Adult ADHD, it’s a blessing and a curse.
I took my workout partner to the vet’s on Tuesday for his shots. I mentioned to my wife I was given the senior discount at the barber shop last month. I told her I could not figure out how they knew I was a senior. She finally let me know, “Well you look like a senior.” That sparked a rousing debate while I was watching the vet check my Shepherd for lumps. (Lump free!) I imagine the vet thought we were a bit nutty. He probably thought she (my wife) was going to punch me when I told my wife she looks older than me. I am surprised she didn’t.
thank you for the birthday wishes. Now I am 62 and have already had the walking farts today.
