Frenchie's Fromage

Nice deadlifting!! Hold your core tight and each rep re-focus. sounds simple but really helps! Also where are you looking when you lift. Focus that too. I find that with Sumo deads its easier to ‘push’ into the ground harder with one leg than the other which would throw you off…do you think it could be that? I have a really dominant side…
Maybe its coz they are new to you too…anyways seems like you are kicking ass!!
Have a great night!

i like that i got kimba to call herself a tiny freak.

and i still mean that in the best way.

I did this one last Sunday. It’s easy to do sumo. I’ve gone ass over teakettle a few times.

That’s a lot of pulling. Nice job.

Lol! Why do I feel there’s a story here.

Excellent DLing Frenchie, even when tired…nice!

I was told that you should feel as if you might fall backward on Sumo, so maybe going off balance is a good thing?..

Sammiches for dinner?! So jealous.

Thats nice pulling Fenchie, I also have a hard time keeping my balance pulling sumo.

kimba - no prejudice all love. Maybe even a little jealousy since I decided that to pull strong I had to live with being a fatty

Nikki - no food talking will be hard. It’s the hubby’s b-day this weekend and I plan on getting him stuffed and sloshed.

Thanks for the tips coyote - I tend to “look up” as I was told to do with reg deads. so tight core, reset and push equally. got ya.

cbear - agree 100%.

Oro - I was thinking of your pulls as I was doing them and you seem so solid. I’ll have to check some of your vids for foot placement and such. Atleast I’m glad it’s part of the learning curve. I must have shaken up a few people dropping 225. ah well. it’s for a good cause.lol.

Maschy - I didn’t just “feel” like I was falling, I fell forward the first time and backwards the second. I’m sure people were saying keep away from the crazy lady. as for sammiches, well I haven’t seen my abs for a while. But I’m making good gains. That makes me happy, especially since at this time of the year we are so bundled-up.

Hai Joe, would pulling sumo be easier on your back? Just a thought… I felt that sumo reminded me to pull with my legs and butt where as I still have a tendancy to use my back a lot with reg deads.

That’s a lot of d-ling. Nice work.

I teeter totter sometimes when I pull conventionally. Since I’ve never torn up my shins, I figure I’m keeping the bar too far away from my body. But, I don’t really know.

Probably but I’d most likely hurt my self some other way because of balance issues.

sumos make me nearly fall as well, I avoid them :{

You lifts look pretty stellar to me

How far up is “up”? Try keeping your head in a neutral position, with your eyes about 6-8 feet in front of you at the start (or what…2 metres in your case  ). I recently brought my head down from looking straight ahead to about 6’ in front of the bar, and felt a lot more stable.

Just a thought.

Oh, well not like I have to tell you, but please tell of the delicious food you make for him.

I see the meals you make just cuz it’s Wednesday! I can’t imagine the feast he’ll have this weekend.

hi Nadia - keep the bar close to my shins has helped my numbers go up, and my shins to look like I still play in the school yard at lunch time

Joe - true that.

Brute- But I want your 300lbs deads!!

Ink- I’m guessing I’m looking too far up, hence the loss of balance. I’ll aim for neutral head next time.

Nikki currently eating tuna out of a can with a dash of sun dried tomatoe pesto and flax seed oil. Very basic. I’m sure that would fit on a low carb diet day. This weekend on the other hand should be epic!!!

Enjoy an epic weekend, hope the balance thing gets figured out. Maybe it’s just that you’re in Canada and the force of gravity is weaker the further from the equator you are?

I have huge balance issues everytime I try sumo. It’s such a form-dependent lift. One I’ve certainly never been able to master.

I’ll show you the force of our “canadian gravity” Inky-boy shakes fist

Snap - makes total sense. practice I suppose.

my new toys!!!

A shout out to Diana who hooked me up with this place. merci ma chere.

I think this is totally true. Conv. pulling hits me in the lower back, whereas sumo does so hardly at all. Glutes and hammies for sure.

As for tiny freaks, I WILL need a new log name soon…

This place is full of cool toys: tires, kettle bells, sleds, chains, platforms… There were no more than a dozen of us including 3 coaches walking around, working out, giving tips. I plan to drive there once a week to work on various lifts.

So what Frenchie learned being coached for the first time:

1- freaky small strong women exist in my neighborhood. But better yet, watching her bench was a thing of beauty. This woman is all about form, her lines, her breath. It’s inspiring.

2- I have tight achiles heels and hamstrings which causes my knees to cave inwards, I need to to really learn to stretch those out.

3- I set up me squat nicely, tight bar, tight back, good breath, but it all goes to shit as I bend. I don’t sit back enough and I revert all to my hammies once I’m in the hole. Squat session was basically plenty of reps using bar only and then 95lbs. To really get some glute activation she recommended that I imagine trying to rip the platform apart with my feet as I sit back. This tip really helped understand how to sit back.

4- I’m a good bencher yeah for something! I need to strengthen my back, currently using mostly lats. Also I have a tendency to role my right wrist (an injury from when I was a kid) she suggested some beginner rist wraps to keep those nice and tight. Benched all the way up to 127 x 5 felt nice and easy. They have a top score board and she says I will have the bench high running for her money. Will be adding more facepulls, pullups and rows to strengthen my back. Also I played with keeping my feet flat. My arch is not as pretty but that will need to be worked on.

I was there for 1.5 hours basically working on those 2 moves. I’ll be practicing my squat a lot this week at my reg gym with her tips in mind.

And so the journey begins…

I fallen over (or nearly) in both meets so far. First time sumo lifting almost landed in the head refs lap and second time conventional - took a step forward on the way up. Needless to say, both were red-lighted. I guess the bar got in front of me each time. Once on the way down and then on the way up.
