So im finally back in the gym today after not working out for a lil while due to injury, and as im wrapping up a dynamic effort day for my westside lift, i saw a rather muscular looking guy walking up to the power rack. Thinking he was going to squat, I watched as he lowered the bar onto the pins, put 2 45’s on each side. Shrugs maybe? Then he did something I wasn’t expecting, he pushed the bar all the way to where the pin meets the cage, walked over the dumbells, picked up a 30 pounder, leand on the barbell with the 225 loaded on it, and proceded to do CONCENTRATION CURLS with the 30 dumbell. I was flabbergasted. He did 6 sets of 10 with each arm. He put the dumbell away, then unloaded the bar and but the bar back on the support pins. I nearly shit a brick on the spot, it took damn near everything in me not to deck him.

I will outdue everyone with this example.

And the fact that you were paying so much attention to him probably also deluded him into thinking you were impressed by his curling feats. Rest assured he will be repeating his performance in the near future…
I don’t know TV69, I probably would have been staring at that kind of retardation too. And I would probably be thinking: “Good lord, that is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. This smells like good story material to me…”

Don’t get me wrong; I would have been staring right along too. My point is that by doing so (giving him the attention), said idiot is probably now under the mistaken impression that what he’s doing is impressive – when it’s the exact opposite.
I guess what really needs to happen is for somebody to give the idiot a wakeup call and say exactly what you were thinking to his face. Unfortunately, the “live and let live” protocol of most gyms discourage that. Most of us (myself included) would rather just stare and be irritated than call these idiots out.
Your writing is terrible. You try to impress with your vocabulary but it only distracts the reader from your message. Your grammar is awkward, resulting in unnecessarily long sentences. Clarity is the essence of good communication, and you don’t have a handle on it yet.
Instead of:
“I had a high level of respect for you. Even when your views weren’t amenable to others you kept a modicum of civility.”;
try:
I respected you. You remained civil even when you disagreed with others.
Instead of:
“All you have accomplished is an insipid and profane personal attack that disrupted what had become a discussion of positive values. You made several repugnantly false assumptions about me and fraternity men in general.”;
try:
Your personal attack, based on a number of false assumptions, has disrupted a positive discussion.
Instead of:
“You have succeeded in emphatically communicating your spite towards fraternities and youth, in me and in general. I think it’s clear that it was best kept to yourself. If you want to say ‘frat curl’ for reasons like that, then you, not I, will be the one reflected upon poorly.”
try:
You’ve made clear your anger toward fraternities and youth, but I think you should have kept it to yourself. Your reasoning for saying ‘frat curl’ reflects poorly on you, not on me.
Simplicity, my friend. Why use three verbs when one will do? Why use four adjectives when they only distract from the message?
I was at the gym the other day, going through my workout, and this dude taps my shoulder (I can’t hear him with my headphones on) and he motions that he needs a spot. I walk over with him, and as we pass the benches and keep walking, I get filled with rage. DUDE IS CURLING IN THE SQUATRACK AND HE WANTS A SPOT! How the hell do you spot curls? Then he says, “I think I should be able to get five, so don’t give me any help unless I’m totally stuck.” I think this is the first time I didn’t know how to respond in the gym. I felt like laughing, punching this dude in the face, and embarrased at the same time.
ive never done curls in the squat rack…it never occured to me to do anything but lets say squatting for the most part…but im just gonna take this opportunity to make a note…note to self, dont do curls in the squatrack.
It really should go without saying, but the only things with collars on them at the gym should be the barbells.
what makes that even more funny is the amount of guys who are “too tough” to use a collar in the weight room, it’s got to be hella embarassing to struggle and have all the weights fall off!

Afraid I have never “pitched” anything with a buddy.
You are right my exposure to fraternities (and sororities) has been from the class instructor side where pledges and members keep telling me how they cannot complete an assignment or take an exam because they have to do something with their house (party, social, etc.) So, from an “go to college to get and education and not waste your parents money” point of view, I do not see the positives there.

Does that make you the “catcher”(not that there’s anything wrong with that)?
