Thanks, Steely. That is exactly what happened to me when I saw your squatting prowess.
Besides the normal goals, every now and then you run across something someone else has done and think “Yeah, I wanna be able to do that.” The 2 that pop into my head, without giving it much thought, are your squats, at 405# and Harry’s bench, at 315#.
Then there is Steve’s 315x30. For the record, even if I was physically capable of it, I wouldn’t do it. That’s just nuts
Squat day today. And my left thigh is still giving me problems, at about 10 o’clock. Still feels like it is, or is around, the IT band. But what the hell do I know?
Hopefully it’ll loosen up during warm ups.
Thanks, Gents. It was a BS PR because I did the x2 several months ago. I have done 405x3, so I really wanted 8 or 9. Such is life. The one good thing, though, is that I got done what I needed to.
A bad day lifting is better than not lifting at all.
You are so funny - “I got a four rep PR but it was stupid.”
Man - If I could take any lift and triple the reps at the weight at which I did a double in the time frame you mention, I would be ecstatic, because I’ve never done it.
Oh and no naked pics of you.
Ever.
Unless you have tribal tats on your ass - I need a good laugh.
I had to start a new account to get my handle changed. Then I had to explain to the mods why I did it as they suspected me of wanting to post as two people - which seems to be a weirdly common occurrence on the site. In the past, Headhunter and others have been caught starting arguments and supporting themselves in the fray using the other accounts they had in order to fake a majority opinion.
Jack, indeed they do. I had to remind myself of that so that I didn’t get pissy about it. Hopefully tomorrow goes better, or I might be in a sour mood over the weekend
Thanks Joe. And I definitely am not saying it was bad. Only that it didn’t meet what I considered to be realistic expectations.
Tony, you never fail to bring a smile. And thanks. I had not looked at it from the perspective that I tripled my reps at that weight in a few months. It just seemed that 11@345 would have translated into more than 6@365. Maybe I am just being greedy and impatient.
Lol…no naked pics. I save that for my enemies. I do have a tattoo, but it is neither tribal nor on my ass. My youngest calls it my “pirate” tattoo. I can see why. I’ll post in sometime. Don’t worry, it is on my shoulder.
Ya don’t shit on progress! Glory in it and then push past it!
Hey squats looked good. One thing I have been working on is driving my elbows down when I come up. It keeps my chest high so I lead with it and it stops me from losing my arch.

Nice job Brother!
Good point, Colin. I shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
I am going to play with my hand placement a bit, and see if I can get the bar a bit further back, and elbows more under it, in an attempt to keep me a bit more vertical. That might be moving it in the wrong direction. With trial and error, though, it’ll get sorted.

Bitching about a PR What’s next, whining cuz u won the lottery? Nice work.
I bitch about PRs a lot…to my shame. And, yeah. I would be thrilled to win the lottery. But I would have that little bit of griping because I won $50 million instead of $350 million
My discontent, though, is one of the things that really pushes me.
Cycle 1 / Week 2 / Day 3 - Military Press (Shoulders and arms)
Today felt better than Tuesday…thank goodness. Legs still hurt and I am thinking of just doing the required stuff (on squat day) for a couple of weeks, just to see if they quit hurting and let me return to form.

That’s it and my shoulders feel it. I am shooting for 10 reps with 205#, next week. Some of you may remember the last time I tried to get 10 with 205#, I ended up getting 7 and dancing with the bar…staggered forward, then backward, then forward again…all with the bar at logout. Fun times…

Nice solid work. Question…Why do you stop the bar at the chin instead of the shoulders? I’m not pickin…I’m just curious.

Believe it or not, that is not a conscious decision. That is where it feels comfortable stopping, especially when I am tight and in a rhythm. Even when I unrack the bar, it sits up off the clavicle. When you look at my starting position, I am not working to keep it there. That is where it wants to sit when I unrack it. On the last rep (the deepest one) you can see how the body movement is less smooth, as I try to clear my big head. For that matter, the bar, when I have finished and am racking it, is still at about the same height.
I did some work with just the bar, oneday, and discovered that getting it to the clavicle caused my forearms to get out of position…meaning my hands were out in front, and my forearms no longer directly under the bar. The only way I found to combat this was to lean further back, which I am trying to avoid.
If I changed my hand placement, I think I could likely get it lower. But, I use this grip because 1) it causes the least stress to my elbows and 2) as a bonus, it seems to be one of the stronger positions for me.
The 1st 10 reps were like a hot knife in butter! Big time Millies Strick…I think if you supplement your millies with Glove Drops you can get 205x10 no problem!!
