Sorry to hear you’re still having problems. I feel for you. Everyone has great suggestions for lower body work but nothing really feels as good as squatting. Someone mentioned belt squats but have you tried zerchers? I love these and they might save on spinal loading. Lunges, step ups and stuff leave me cold.
Thanks, all. Millies are holding there own despite everything. That was a rough set. Not much stability and my form was all over the place. I don’t think any 2 reps had the same bar path. It got done, though.
Feel really beat up, today. The extra set of shrugs, coupled with, what I now realize, was poor set up on the fwd. raises, really blasted my traps. Thank God for off days.
Ouroboro, I have tried zerchers. I used to include them, but they aggravate my back as much as back squats. I am with you on the lunges. As I recall, I always hated them. BUT, they might be something I can do without making things worse. If so, they will end up being done anyway ![]()
Oh yeah…I didn’t forget (just to make that clear), but forgot to mention here. Yesterday was our (mine and Mrs. Strick’s) 10th anniversary. Poor thing got hoodwinked into marrying me. I was 31 and she was 24. Never knew what hit her ![]()
She often points out that I did not ask her to marry me. I told her that we were going to get married. I think my exact words were, “You know that I’m going to marry you, right?”
She was coming out of a horrendous/abusive marriage. As such, she didn’t believe in marriage and just wanted to live together. Being the traditionalist that I am, however, told her that if we weren’t getting married, we had no future. I wasn’t trying to be mean or coercive…just honest. Fortunately, she says that it was the best thing she ever HAD to do ![]()
Hey, happy anniversary.
Skip, you cradle robber you! Congrats. 10 years is a nice milestone. I hope you have many more.
Thanks Joe, Jack.
Yeah, kind of a cradle robber. But they say that if there are more than 5 years between spouses, the chances of divorce are much less. Seems to hold true with us ![]()
Besides, I was a 31 year old who thought he was 21.
happy Anniversary.
Thanks, bulldog. We actually get a night out, tomorrow night, WITHOUT THE KIDS, to celebrate. That is a too rare occurence.
After work today, I decided to go ahead and mow the front yard and then part of the back. I’ll finish it tomorrow. While doing so, it dawned on me that I can turn moving into a slightly higher level of cardio than it normally is. Put dumbbells on the mower!
The handle is a bit too low for me, and really strains my back. But a few more pounds might not hurt.
Just a thought.
Also, I am trying to figure out my plan for the next few weeks. I will be in GA the last week of the month. So that is going to have to be a deload. I really want to max on bench and millies again, before I go, though…especially since I hit the 365# 2 board. I am stoked to give it a go.
I just can’t decide if I should deload before trying the max, as I have been going pretty good for the past 3 weeks, which includes the additional day per week and the associated volume. I just can’t decide.
Anyway…I hope that everyone has a good holiday weekend!
Happy holiday to you as well.
Hope the back/hip heals quickly and you can figure out the root cause.
Congrats on the 10 year milestone.
Very impressive Mili’s. I can’t wait to get to 225.

Happy Anniversay, Happy Independence Day, and as for benching, what the hell, give it a shot. Like Yoda says ‘Do, or do not. There is no try.’
OP, you’ll hit 225 before you know it. Funny thing about the 1st time I got 225# up. It was a really big deal to me, before the fact. Being able to put 2 45# plates on each side and press…“Wow!”, I thought. Once it went up, though, it wasn’t as grand as I had hoped. I think I have a bad habit of getting a goal in mind, that I think is really good, then thinking, “Hell, if I can do it, it must not be a big deal.”, once it goes up. It would be rally nice to, just once, hit a goal and actually get the warm fuzzies.
RL, you are exactly right. Just need to decide if I am going to try it next week or the week after.
Recovery…
We had a mild frog strangler this morning. I pointed it out to the boys, who seemed uninterested. So, I got to be the first one out in it. It took about 3 seconds of watching Daddy stand under the shower, coming off the eave of the house, for my youngest to decide that it looked pretty fun…then my daughter…and finally my oldest son. I stomped in the puddles with my youngest and watched him run around the yard with a Christmas morning grin on his face. Next thing I know, we are all in the pool, in a downpour. Good times…
Frog Strangler. Hmm. 20 years in Texas and I still didn’t pick that one up. I had to google it. I can’t wait to use that phrase myself.

Yeah, it’s a nice southern colloquialism that I picked up from my Dad and Grandpa. You can find anything on Google…
Life with an autistic is never dull…
After our early swim, during the rain, we came in for a few hours. My middle child (the autistic one) decided that he wanted to go swimming again. So, he went and got into the pool.
About 45 minutes later, my daughter and youngest convinced me to get back in. Between the rain, cooler temps and cloud cover, the water had gotten COLD! I about lost my boys just trying to get in. Once in, my waterlogged son came over and grabbed hold of me.
His lips were blue! He had dark circles under his eyes and the circles were blue! I got everyone out of the pool, brought him in and put him under some blankets, on the couch. I took his temperature and it was 94.5 degrees.
One of the ways his autism manifests is that he has no awareness of temperature…extreme heat (fire) and cold aside. I have seen him outside, in the worst of summer, where he was beet red, drenched in sweat and still going 500 mph. Looked like he was about to have a heat stroke.
At the other extreme, he has gone out to play in the snow and I had to forcibly drag him inside because his lips and eyes were blue and his fingers were so cold and numb that he could barely use them. Yet he was oblivious to it.
I would swear he was an elf (geek reference)except that the extremes actually effect him…evn if he doesn’t notice.
Chest and Triceps -
I couldn’t decide what to do today. So I kind of winged it. I could really feel that I am a bit run down and that I need somewhat of a break. I am still figuring out how I want to squeeze in my max attempts, over the next few weeks.

Grats on the PR’s and the anniversary! I just got engaged myself about two months ago. After making her wait for more than 5 years I really can’t wait to be married again. My ex really messed me up and left me with some serious self image and trust issues. My girlfriend has waited patienly for me to get my shit together, lol.
