Nice pressing Strick, but the sled+daughter pulls are the stuff of legend. Best father’s day work out ever.
Joe, it was fun, if not tiring. And she really enjoyed it. I need to go a little faster for her, though.
I don’t know if anyone noticed my youngest running along side us. At the very end, right as I stop, you can hear him say, “I won!”…lol
Now I need convince my wife to get on it
Also, I can put dumbbells inside the tire, for additional weight.
Looks like a great time, LS, Happy Father’s day!
Had to laugh watching the 3 board press. The board holder looked like she was approaching the lion’s cage. Great lifting on all the benches.
Thanks, Jack. Definitely a good one.
Harry, that’s my girl! She thinks I am nuts most of the time, but she is right there with me. As long as it makes me happy (and doesn’t involve another woman) she is all for it. I wouldn’t trade her for anyone.

Father’s Day Edition - Chest and Triceps
“Lighter” bench day. The 3 board press was on a whim. For a lighter day, I should have used less than 300# on the working sets, as that is 85% of 1RM, but I just can’t bring myself to do it.
I’m still feeling worn down from last week. The additional workout day and related volume is taking its toll. I am hoping that it is just a matter of adjusting to the new program. I am going to give it this week and next, then evaluate and decide if I have adjusted to it. If I have, I will, of course, stick with it. If not, I will drop back to 3 days a week.

Damn good lifting
Thanks, bulldog. Ya know, when I 1st saw your name, I thought you might be from back home…Athens, Ga. Indiana is a bit off.
Back and Biceps -
Interesting mix today. I am feeling less beaten up, much better than last week, but everything feels heavy and my endurance is down. BUT, at least there is some sort of movement. Hopefully that means positive adjustment.

Workout was kind of wonky, as I was having to take care of the boys while working out. Wife had to take our daughter to the Dr. She had a red, weepy/oozing rash on the outside of her left knee, inside of her left arm and on the edge of her forehead. Doc, on Saturday, said it was cellulitis. Wife called me today and said it was worse. One look at it and I thought…Poison Ivy. She took her back in and sure enough…really bad Poison Ivy. Poor girl… This is her 1st bout with it.
Nice tire pull video. Always fun to watch kids at play. Big kid needs to work harder though. ![]()
Agree with Harry about the 3 board press video.
Sorry to hear about your daughter’s bout with poison ivy.

Feel sorry for your little girl. when I was a kid I was very allergic to posion Ivy.

Additional stuff. After cooling down from the workout, I played Bakugans with my youngest, picked some more blackberries and helped the wife prep for supper.
I got outside a bit before I had to start the charcoal and decided to break out the old tire I have. I have been meaning to try using it for cardio. It worked out fairly well. The video is of my 4th and final “run”. The length of the course is 75 yards (give or take a couple). The tire weighs 31#. My daughter weighs 90#. So, 120# resistance. Pulling it across uneven terrain was more difficult than I had anticipated
Not much speed (I had no intention of sprinting these for 75 yards), especially on the last one, but my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest. Legs were burning and I was sucking wind hard. OBVIOUSLY, I REALLY need to do this multiple times a week.
Followed by a Ribeye dinner, blackberry cobbler, then all 5 of us dancing together in the living room, listening to Fleetwood Mac. I spared y’all that video :)
Happy belated father’s day. That is a nice back yard. What all do you have back there? At the back looks like a small guest house. I’m envious of the trampoline.
Thanks, punnyguy. I definitely need to work harder. I look like Shrek, hanging over that belt ![]()
bulldog, that is her 1st bout with it. By the time I was her age, I had gone through it a half dozen times. Of course, we had lots of woods to play in. As it turns out, not only does she have poison ivy, but the open sores have gotten infected. She is double dosing meds. At least it isn’t anything serious, though.
Ouroboro, lots of stuff. The lot is only 1/3 of an acre. But that is pretty good for a neighborhood.
It is indeed a guest house. It was here when we bought the place. It has power, cable and air conditioning…no running water, though. My sister-in-law lives with us and stays in there. Okay…she sleeps in there and entertains. She is allowed to leave and come into the main house as she pleases.
The “pool” is what is left of a 30’ setup. The liner went out last year and, money aside ($1000+ to get it relined), I was tired of dealing with it. 75% of my time was spent maintaining it and it was really hard to keep clear. So I said to heck with it. I am going to have it filled in very soon, and reclaim that part of the yard. Finances allowing, I hope to replace it with a hot tub, in the foreseeable future.
The trampoline is a must. My middle child (the autistic one) loves that thing. The sensory input does wonders for him and it helps him focus and burn off energy. When it isn’t 95+ degrees out there, he will go out and bounce around for hours a day.
Shit, that is some ingenious idea for a tire pull. Thanks, now I have another use for my kids haha.
Your benching was very nice to, your 3 board bench looked very good.

Thanks. Pulling the kids was on a whim. Depending on which kid, I can make the load (counting the tire) 75#, 100# or 120#. If I can get my wife to go for a ride, I can get it to 160-165# ![]()
In the absence of a “rider”, I can put DBs inside it.
My biggest problem is just finding the time. The weekend is easy. During the week, though, I don’t get through working out until around 7:00. By then, I need to get my time in with the kids before they go to bed.
The 3 board at 365 is interesting. I REALLY, want to try 365 with a 2 board. I have concerns whether or not I can get out from under it if it sticks, though. I am not sure if my wife could get the boards out from under the bar, so I could drop it on the rack. In the end, though, I am just gonna have to go for it.
Granted, we’re maybe not geniuses when it comes to numbers and stuff, but you’re wife may take exception to the above.
As for the 2 board @365, what would your wife really have to lift if it got stuck? 20-30 pounds tops?
Can your wife stand at your head and hold the boards with one hand while spotting the bar with the other? Multitasking.

Are you referring to my saying I could increase the load to 160-165# if I could get her on the tire? If so, she bounces between 130# and 135#, throughout any given month. The other 30# is the tire itself. She won’t take exception to that. 30 months ago she was well over double that weight. Her goal weight was 150#. She beat it by 20# and is thrilled with it. She has done an incredible job keeping it off as well.
If the weight got stuck, I would likely lose some or all of my tightness before she could get in a position to help. At that point, it would be more than 20-30#…and at an awkward height for her. She tried to spot me when I 1st started back. Getting a liftoff from her was almost like unracking it myself. She is strong, but not in an upright row position.
kpsnap wrote:

She could, but I still don’t think she could row it up with enough force to matter. I think the best that I can hope for, with it stuck, is to explode up, and even bridge, to get enough tension off the boards that she could yank them out. The best solution is, of course, to just get strong enough to complete the rep ![]()
She is kind of funny. At times, she exhibits what I consider great strength. She can move furniture that I struggle with, and I have 150+# on her. Put a bar in her hands, though, and that strength magically disappears. I have tried, and continue to try, to get her to start lifting with me. She has almost no interest, though. She claims that she has zero interest, but then she will ask things like, “Do you think I could lift that much?” and “She isn’t that much stronger than me, is she?”
My daughter is the one I think could really do well, though. She is only 9, but carried her 45# brother almost 100 yards the other day (he had gotten stung by a wasp and decided he couldn’t walk). Last night, she picked her Mom up…at 130+#. She also has a strong grip and is pretty good at gymnastics. So…we will see.
Squat Day -
Well, it finally caught me. The Spondy definintely was aggravated today. By the end of my set at 225, the pain had started to the left of my spine, about L5 level. By the end of the set at 315, it had spread into my left glute, hip and down into my thigh.
I should have stopped there, but was determined not to waste the workout. In the end, my left leg wasn’t firing quite right, just due to the nerve being impinged. It sounds worse than it is. A couple of 800mg rounds of ibuprofen and the inflammation will be down and the issue gone. It does mean that it would be prudent to get checked again, though. Just to make sure that it isn’t degenerating.
Trying to find a silver lining in this, I have been contemplating focusing on my bench for a while. I could go slightly lighter on my squats and focus more on reps. Hopefully that would spare my back for a while and give me more umph towards hitting a 405# bench.

I had planned on some tire pulls after this. I spent so much time between sets foam rolling, hanging from the chinup bar and laying on the floor, trying to decompress my back, that there wasn’t time. I will try again tomorrow. If not then, definintely on Friday.

It does at that. Take care, buddy.
