Birthday bash is over!! Well, almost.
My little girl’s 9th birthday party went well. We had just over a dozen kids here. Lots of games…egg carrying (and breaking), balloon popping, marshmallow eating, pin the fang on the vampire (my daughter is a Twilight disciple) and we finished up with a pinata. They had a blast.
The best part was, we then got rid of most of them. Three of the girls spent the night and should be departing before lunch.
We had to finally shut them down about 12:30, as our daughter’s room is directly above ours.

Today is her actual birthday. It is also Mrs. Strick’s birthday. Not much planned. I think some R&R, after yesterday, will be Mrs. Strick’s best present.

Bench deload a bit later today.
That sounds like a day custom made for ativan. I hope Mrs. Strick has a lovely day

When I’m lifitng to music I listen to Alice in Chains, The Dead Kennedys, some of the harder Metallica, Ministry, Theory of a Dead Man, Danzig, NWA, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, and surprisingly enought the soundtrack to Last of the Mochicans.
I like evry one of those you mentioned. To lift to, though, I would, out of that bunch, pick Metallica, Linkin Park and Ministry. I also like Three Days Grace, Seether, Disurbed and a few others. Usually, though, I don’t listen to full albums. I find a bunch of songs that I like and make a mix CD.

Great job and excellent music selection. See, stress sometimes helps you focus.
Yeah. I am not into Death metal, but I can’t pull any energy from the classics. I prefer music that is somewhat raw, frantic, emotionally charged, but not quite demonic…lol.

Of course, when the grunting and cursing was over, the wife and I introduced our kids to Fleetwood Mac. And they actually liked it!
Mine actually like The Beatles, The Who, Zepplin, etc. These are the same ones who also listen to just about everything currently put out, from metal to hip-hop. They are alot more eclectic than I was at that age. However, because of them, I have a whole new list of metal bands to listen to. That’s my favorite lifting music.
I lean towards ac/dc, def leppard, ozzy et al. However, I have a bit of death metal thrown in. They’re just tough to sing along with. One I’m certain they’re singing about Conrad Black. Crazy guys. My daughter thinks it’s hilarious when I sing our dinner menu in a death metal voice.

Lol…It is funny that your daughters find that funny. Mine would too. My 4 year old, though, it would scare him. He would timidly come up to me afterwards, put his hand on me and ask if it was okay. That being just a ploy to make sure that I am still me and not about to eat him.

I can lift to AC/DC and the Ozz-man. Kids lost my CD of the former, though. And, believe it or not, I have never owned a CD of the latter.

Right now she is napping  And I am running interference.

Cycle 1 / Week 4 / Day 1 - Bench Deload

Dislocatesx10x3
Windmillsx10x3
Static Stretching
Foam Rolling.

I added more of all of these, because, for some unknown reason, I am REALLY tight and REALLY sore…elbows, knees, ankles, delts, calfs and quads.

Also, I foam rolled the hell out of my left IT band. That was the most painful thing I have experienced in a long while.

Bench

barx15x2
95x10
135x10
155x5
185x5x2 - playing with a slightly narrower grip
205x5x2 - Again, playing with grip

Lat Pulls
110x15
160x12x3 - trying to really focus on the lats

Seated Rows
160x12x3 - pulled them a bit higher than usual. I liked it.

Easy day. Took all of 30 minutes.
Now, to decide on Tuesday. I am likely to go very light, hoping that my leg will quit bitching. We’ll see.

Off to the yard, to play in the hose with the 4 year old.

OK, we’re going to need video of that. Thanks!

I may just do that. I did it once in the grocery store when I found gold fish crackers in ‘Xtreme Cheddar’ flavour. She thought it was hilarious. The other patrons moved away rather quickly.

I can’t imagine why
Imagine how much faster they would have moved if they had known that you could squat, deadlift and bench press them…lol

Nice deload you have going Skip. I wanna see a vid of you playing in the hose too!

Lol…I am pretty sure that seeing me all wet is not high on the list of videos that people want to see
I’ll get some video of the boys in it, next time, though.

Have fun deloading. You need it you been lifting so heavy.

Good lifting, good family time, good music. You earned a good deload.

Thanks Steve, Harry. I don’t know if I earned a deload, but my body sure seems to need it. Everything feels really heavy and I am really achy. I’m not sure what is going on, but I hope it is better by Sunday.

Cycle 1 / Week 4 / Day 2 - Squat Deload

Left leg is still giving me hell. It is tight, achy and gripes everytime I walk. I’m not sure if the foam rolling is helping, but it hurts enough to do that either a) I forget about the original pain or b) it numbs me for a bit.

Standing Calf Raises - I need better balance, or a machine to do these in.
225x10x3

I mentioned a couple of days back that my calves were sore. I couldn’t figure out why. Then it dawned on me. On Friday, we had to climb ladders onto the tops of buildings, to check for signal interference and possible sources. These were perfectly vertical roof access ladders. Apparently, that was enough to make my pansy calves sore.
In light of that, calf raises will now be a part of my squat day…because, that is just embarassing.

LS - I do calf raises on a smith rack while standing on an aerobic board with my heels hanging off it. Leg press machines also do the trick but its hard to find one that gets you into a high enough weight range. 45 degree plate loaded leg press works too, but be careful when you hang your heels off the edge.
Also do seated to hit the Solius. I inherited wimpy legs so I need to work them hard. You’ll be walking like you have knee wraps on a day after.

Cool stuff with the kido’s.

Calf raises. Hmph. We consider them an accessory lift. Normal gym go’ers consider them a main lift. You know the guy. One set of Haff-Ass Leg Press, or 1 set of Quarter-Squats, then 20 sets of calves. ‘Whew, what a workout!’ Been there, seen it. I actually haven’t done these in, um, decades.

OP - the only thing that I can do to stabilize myslef at home is to a) get better balance or b) lean into the power rack when I do them. If “a” doesn’t happen soon, I will go to “b”.

RL - I have seen them too. In a former life, when I went to a gym. And I am just guessing that it was the ladders. I have stairs in my house and use the stairs at work, so I wouldn’t think the ladders were different enough to cause it. I just don’t know what else it could have been, though.

NNNAAA its the ladders. We have these 120’ tall concrete silos at the mill. I have to climb them now and agian. After the 4 trip up and down my calves are fried. Also I cant breathe becasue I’m scared as hell of heights…

120’ up and a fear of heights does not mix well. I don’t have an issue with heights as long as I am sure that the structure isn’t going to collapse and there is no chance of me being sent careening over the edge.

Been thinking a lot about my bench, of late, especially since my thigh is playing hell and affecting my squats.

I am thinking of incorporating the following, in an attempt to push it forward…

 1. Heavier back work. - I have been moving towards this, but I think a thicker/stronger back would help immensely.
 2. Dropping the +1 set that I have been doing on the ME and saving that energy for the assistance bench.
 3. Adding in some rotator cuff work. - just some internal and external rotations, to try to strengthen/stabilize my shoulders.
 4. Keeping the “heavy” 3 or 4 board press for week 3 assistance.
 5. On week 1 and 2, doing a 1 board CGB on one and a 1 board normal grip on the other. - If I can get the weight up at 1 board, I think my max will really jump.

Also, once it feels “comfortable” on a 3 board press, I want to take 365 down to a 2 board.

Anyway, we’ll see how it goes.
