Forrest Griffin: Suspect Chin?

i’ve always been a wrestler…never done mma but if I did I would love to throw a quick jab, get em to slip, and then go for a quick unexpected takedown, punch out the bastid

Double jab is used but not that much because of takedowns kicks and the like. It’s aasier to counter it in mma and it can be dangerous if the opponent times it.

It’s not used because very few have the requisite hand speed and footwork to make it work. If you get timed, you’re doing it wrong. BJ Penn beat Sherk with jabs. /END

Sherk used double jabs in that fight I wouldn’t call his boxing great.

His boxing isn’t great. There’s more to BOXING than just PUNCHING.

his boxing aint bad at all. He slipped, ducked, has quick jabs, crosses, has great cardio and power and speed the combo of which is pretty rare etc. Penn himself only had a cross and a semi-lazy jab, that’s it. The only problem was that he was afraid to get in close to Penn and use that power. Why afraid? Probably b/c he didnt want to deal w/ penn’s insane jitz.

So, please, say that he was a moron for not training his jitz or defending against it, but leave his boxing alone b/c he can throw some mitts well.

dude, that fight was a boxing match, and BJ won, ergo his boxing was better that night… and I don’t give a fuck about ‘jitz’

The day I see an MMA fighter double jab I’ll shit myself. Seeing them slip and duck is even more rare.[/quote]

I mostly agree with you, with a rare exception. It really saddens me to say that because I think the double and triple jab are great tools! I also believe in training mma fighters to slip and duck punches. The problem is that most guys get frustrated and don’t want to learn the technique. I try and teach them, and it ends up they just want to “hit pads, or mits, or heavy bag.” Very sad, as I think not getting hit is more important in mma than in most other striking sports. Even pure muay thai guys CAN slip and duck punches, just don’t see it as much as boxing.

This is why I could never be a trainer.

You want to “hit the fuckin bag,” fine, but go do it at some other gym. The bag don’t hit back, and when he gets popped, I wouldn’t want him representing my gym when he’s out on his ass because he didn’t want to learn to slip.

No, Sherk lost that fight due to a lack of footwork, poor strategy and the unwillingness to lead off. He might be able to hit hard and have decent form when punching a bag or focus mitts, but he has no idea how to actually apply that to different types of opponents. So, I’d agree that his boxing isn’t great, but he’s a decent puncher.

You guys need to watch Sherk vs. Edgar. Fits in with this discussion perfectly.

my old instructor had a easy way to make you learn to slip and more your head. if you were hitting the mitts you would have the person holding them throw shots back when you were most open and made you dodge and move. If you fucked up… you better be able to slip and move because that crazy bitch would chase your ass down firing kicks and punches. Worked though never had a problem with head movement n slipping in the ring. Got a few black eyes and fat lips in training though

Sooo…thoughts???

Forrest - WTF happened!?

forrest jus got his country ass ko’d by a black prince naseem! wtf is goin on!

Man,fuck Prince Naseem…Silva is Silva.

Silva was toying with him the whole fight, it was embarrassing…

Looked like a bad gameplan. He stood and struck with Silva, which, well… was a bad idea. As a result Forrest got outclassed in this fight pretty badly. I still think he has the tools to put up more of a fight, but Silva negated him last night. I also think he realised that the second he got out of that coma, and ran out of the arena in shame.

On the flip-side, looks like the Spider heard the boos from the last two outings. That was fucking entertaining! He played to the crowd and toyed with Griffin the second he figured him out. Loved seeing the guy who blasted Franklin, Hendo and Nate back in action.

lol… silva owned griffin completely. i cant believe he ran like that at the end of the fight
