Form and Depth Check

Hey guys just wondering how these lifts look, nothing impressive yet but I’m working on it! 320 pound squat for my last set of singles, and 295 for my last set of doubles. There’s also a 405 deadlift but it’s not great. I had a long day at work before hitting the gym that night and the weights felt HEAVY.

I only saw a deadlift video, so I can only comment on that.

Looks as though you could focus a bit more on opening up your knees and getting your hips as close to the vertical plane of the bar as possible (a common cue is “balls to the bar”, but I myself don’t like to think about how many trainees have done that with the bar I’m using before I pull). You seem to have good leverages to go sumo, so this shouldn’t be a big problem. It’s also hard to tell from this angle, but try to focus on pulling back.

Oops I’ll upload the squats

And the other one

I’m really bad at this video thing haha

The 320 squat is close to depth but a little bit high.

I would drop the j-hooks down one level. It can be hard to get tight under the bar when it is too high and you have to finagle it off the hooks. You do a lot of adjusting after you have unracked. A lower pick will let you get into a good position before you unrack.

Thanks for the responses! My hips have been tight it’s something I’ve been working on a lot lately so that should improve with time. As for the j hooks that’s something I’ve never thought of. Never once crossed my mind maybe I should lower them. I’ll definitely be trying that Thursday.

Your hips look to start pretty high on your deadlifts for pulling sumo. Would agree with Silyak on both the depth and the J-hooks.

How tall/ heavy are you btw? You seem to have huge thighs for the amount of weight your lifting

Yeah honestly, its really one of my worst deadlifts. I’m doing them later today so maybe ill record a better video. I’m 5’10 around 225. Been on a cut since mid january which is also when I decided to try a powerlifting routine. I’ve been blessed with big thighs and a huge ass haha

Last heavy single of today. I think it looks a lot better than the other. I also did front squats with the j pegs down a notch and it felt great, thanks for that advice!

Looked better! It still seems as though your hips are coming up a bit early, though. Approximately what percentage of your 1RM was that single at?

Couldn’t really tell from the angle of the video, but do your knees track inwards slightly out of the hole? I say this because it looks like they do, but again, the angle kind of makes it hard to tell. This might correlate to the pain in your hips.
