For what it’s worth: I tried my Vibrams on some farmers. Never again. I felt horrible trying to carry in those things. (I used to use my Chucks, then went to hiking boots, now I use those Addidas driving shoe things for carry events, they seem to work ok. Been using those for a couple of years now probably.) Think I tried them on yoke too. Just remember that I felt every step trying to carry with them.
I have squatted, pulled, overhead etc in the Vibrams and they felt fine. I don’t use them currently for anything though.
I would not recommend them for carry events, but to each their own.
Would wrestling/grappling shoes be effective for any strongman events? They are low to the ground, not much to the soles of them. Only thing I’ve done in them besides grapple is use them to deadlift anything and everything weighing over 185 lbs.
I use my work shoes with steel noses for most events. Especially the Stones, but also the farmers - tire flips - yoke and every stationairy event like Log Presses.
When there are truck pulls I switch to shoes with small spikes which the pro cyclists use.
When speed is important with load races and such I switch to flat soled shoes used by indoor soccer players.
When having used the heavy work shoes and then switching to the sport shoes makes me feel featherly light and fast
We did some sandbag carries over the weekend for 60ft and speed- wearing Chucks will not cut it for me. I find I heel strike too much and lose a lot of momentum in each step and end up not moving quickly at all.
Any advice? I am thinking I will bring my running shoes out again for this…

Indoor soccer shoes maybe? They’re usually quite rigid, flat soled and at the same time made for quick footwork. Check out Adidas Samba or Puma Sala, those are the only two I remember the name of lol.
I pretty much use olympic shoes for everything now minus deadlift events which i use slippers.
Worked up to some heavy yoke carrys for 30m and once i got over 600lb, my skate shoes were crap. slapped on my oly shoes and carried 350kilo/775lbs for 30m with one drop. so much more stable for yoke and farmers.
I have different shoes for alot of different events. I use the chucks for most events, but I use wrestling shoes for truck pulling and tire flipping, and sometimes boots for power stairs.
