Football Blowout as 'Bullying'?

Thoughts? In this generation where some sports don’t keep score, everyone gets a trophy, and you can’t play dodgeball in gym class anymore, I’m just shaking my head.

S

My head hurts from trying to figure that out.

I played on a 5th grade basketball team. The first game of the season we won 60 to 1. The coach did everything he could to not let us beat up on that poor team. We had more talent, a better coach, and everything you could imagine on a 5th grade basketball team. We played 8 minute quarters and all players were required to play a minimum of 1.5 quarters. We played our worst players 2.5 quarters. I felt bad for that team, but beat downs happen. That is life.

It is not the coaches responsibility to stop his offense. It is the opposing teams defense’s responsibility. I think Steve Spurrier said that when he was at Florida.

Suck it up Mom and deal with it. Your son is on an inferior team. Blame your son’s coach for sucking, not the opposing team for showing you that your son is a loser and is on a losing team.

The opposing coach even admitted that Aledo is just that good and said that they are good sportsmen. If Aledo were dicks about blowing teams out so bad that would not be a good thing. But it sounds like they fuck other teams up with class. Good for them.

This whole everything is bullying is getting ridiculous. Wah I lost and it was embarrassing they are bullying me. Boo hoo time to join reality with the rest of us. You lost and your team just sucks ass. Not their fault, especially when their coach is trying not to score but does anyways. They probably had freshmen in and were still destroying them. It isn’t their fault that the other team was just outright terrible.

…and then there is that^.

I wrestled in a very competitive region and state. There was always a hand full of front runners and a dominant team. Sometimes you were on it, sometimes you weren’t. Sometimes, between division, regional, invitationals and states you could end up wrestling the same kid 8 times in a year. You both practice, condition, and prepare as well as you can then go at it. Losing doesn’t always mean that you suck the team sucks and the coach sucks and everybody is a complete loser. It does mean that the other guy is better though, and you need to shore up some flaws. Winning doesn’t mean that you are the pinnacle of the sport either- same guy can come back in a tournament and eat you alive.

Getting beat by a Rulon Gardner or Kurt Angle doesn’t mean you suck you’re a loser and yadda yadda yadda, it means you got beat by the best.

If you lost in wrestling 91 to 0 what would that tell you about your wrestling abilities? It is not just a couple of things you need to improve on.

Now wrestling and Football are completely different. Single vs Team.

Maybe I should have used less offensive words, but you have to admit that the team that one was much better than the losing team.

Wrestling does have a ‘technical pin’ in high school where if you ever lead by 15 points they call the match and end it. It is really considered the most embarressing way to lose, just comepletely demoralizing. There were times when I wouldnt even try to pin a kid that was not even on the same level, I would purposely tech him.

On a side note I have tried to change one to won in my last sentence twice and each time it changes back to one.

Matches are called after a 15 point difference, and I never lost by point fall. I was pinned in like world record time though by a kid who went on to the olympic team though. Thats the difference between pretty good regionally and excellent at an international level.

They are different in a lot of ways but share a whole ton of similarities at the individual and team level. Individual efforts contributing to team performance among them.

And no denying that one team was better than the other. I wouldn’t do that in a million years, but going full on “You’re all a bunch of losers!” is about as unbalanced as filing a bullying report because they lost(which, if I haven’t said it, is complete crap imho).

I went and watched a buddy once who missed weight and got bumped down to JV. He bet me he would pin the other kid in less than 10 seconds. I jumped at the bet but lost, and it wasn’t even close.

Even worse, I would just keep using tilts

I got teched as a freshman buy a two time state champ Junior(won as a fresh and soph) at the time. He didnt even try to pin me. It was the first match of a tourny, he used me as a warm up.

God, I’m done with this shit. Russia won. They’re the biggest, baddest group of people left on Earth and it’s not even a contest anymore.

Are.

You.

Kidding.

Me.

Thats Bullying! Ha,j/k. I would always just pin them and go sit back down.

Mainly because of what JJackrash said. That pin was in part because I and we, as a team way underestimated the opponents. It was our first match ever against them and we were all like “Waynesburgh who?” until it turned into a massacre. He still would have whooped my ass, but I was ashamed of that one.

The nanny-staters/helicopter-parents/neo-facists will want to control the league in order to make it ‘fair’. And if they (continue) to succeed in their efforts we will continue to be less competitive as a culture and people. A landslide loss to a superior opponent should elicit the response of: “Lets study their coaching, methods, training, etc to learn how to be better.” In other words, lets emulate the winners so that we can be winners. Not hand-cuff them so that we are all equally inferior.

or perhaps we should require people like CT and Wendler to start putting helium inside of their plates rather than iron… just to keep us feeling better…

updated and i agree

In Texas of all places!! Football is life there. Didn’t anybody see the movie “Varsity Blues”?

And what Cap. Needa said, x2.

I’m a short guy. I was actually bullied in high school, and sure, it probably had some influence on why I started hitting the weights some 20 years ago. I also had no athletic ability whatsoever (still don’t, really). Yet I still managed to carve out my little piece of the world and be a part of functioning society. As a kid, I was punished when I was wrong, even slapped around a little bit. Somehow I managed not to call Social Services on my parents, nor did I bring a gun to school to terminate my bullies. Today, I’m far from rich, but I’m not going to whine and complain about it being “unfair” that there are those that make much more than me. Today, I’m pretty dang strong - and I regularly see guys that are much, much stronger than me. Why waste my energy being envious of them, when instead I might observe and perhaps learn something from them?
