Focus on the Essential

Umm something green crawled up on your plate. Did you know?

Nice table! If that’s solid I like that a lot.

solid rosewood, and at a good price too! it’s a little scratched from being used at an Indian Import store. I find the weathering just gives it character.

dude, my food sucks.

My hubby made our table…it looks similar in design to yours. of course he made it to fit HIM, so he wouldn’t have to lean all the way over to shovle his food in. (He’s 6’5") So we had to get tall chairs for it too

mmmm, beef!

yeah…you are definitely a better cook, photographer, diver, bencher, and Canadian than i am…

if i wasn’t so smitten i would hate you…

I know I am late, but wow! Good work blowing your bench PR out of the water. I have to admit, your dream made me get a little misty eyed by the time I was done reading it.

Alpha used the word smitten. you’re so cute
Truth is you outbench me by a mile and aren’t you americain or did I get that wrong? As for diving I’m a total newb. Anybody can out-dive me at this point. But I will try to graciously take your compliment, thank you.

Hi Owlie! glad you could drop in. I used to write tones of short stories and poetry as a teen and through my university years. I used to basically read and write. As I grew into adulthood I learned to be creative with my cooking and pictures and got hooked on lifting. I still write once in a while but I find I’m not as driven to write. I think it’s the age old delima of writer’s block. Drama, life challenges and difficulties are what really inspires me. Married life, stable work and a loving family are not very conductive for writing. Hence my food has become a new creative outlet. Both food and photography allows me to be creative and give back to my family and friends.

Anwho enough chitchat. Today’s punshiment:

bench
95lbs 1x8
115lbs 1x5
125lbs 1x5
135lbs 1x3
140lbs 1x1
145lbs 1x1
150lbs 1x1 - tagged the rack which rattled me. Got it up alone but it wasn’t pretty. happy non the less. I was able to repeat my max.
155 - 2x nil. unracked it but tagged the bar again which deflated me. The two attempts left me tired
100lbs 1x6 - felt awkward. stopped realized I forgot a plate on left side. d’uh!
105lbs 1x12

felt shaky and weird. Couldn’t figure out what my problem was until my stomach let lose a loud grumble. I was hungry of course. Hence why my bench felt iffy. I always do this to myself on saturdays. I eat breakfast between 7-8am, head out to the gym around 10:30-11:00 and by the time I start lifting my belly reminds me I should have brought a snack. Next time I’m bringing a bar or shake. Anyhow, kept on trucking.

front squat
65lbs 1x5
85lbs 1x5
95lbs 1x3 (with belt at this point)
105lbs 1x3
115lbs 1x2
125lbs 1x1
135lbs 1x1 - PR + 10lbs. Honestly 125 + 135 did not break parallel but they were decent depth.
95lbs 1x8

GHR
10lbs plate 3x8 - pr + 10lbs. damn I’m weak on these. last reps were all grinds.

Millies
65lbs 3x8

cable crunches
100lbs 1x12
120lbs 1x10
130lbs 1x8
140lbs 1x5 - PR + 5lbs.

good mornings
75lbs 1x12
95lbs 2x12

Lunch was a full cup of oates, choco pp, rasberries AND crackers with rabbit rillettes. Nomnomnom.

Tonight I’m heading for some Indian’s with my best buds. I love these types of weekends. Good food, good company and sunshine.

cheers
N

Strong front squats. All of your lifts are making big gains lately. Nice!

Enjoy the fine weather while it lasts.

Fantastic job on the 150 bench N.

I gotta love the front squat PR on an empty tummy!

I did that “uneven bench bar” thing once or twice myself :stuck_out_tongue:

Great job on the front squat PR.
What are millies?

Congrats on the PR

Anyone’s food would suck compared to N’s or Kimba’s. I swear I want to live at their houses.

Awesome on the bench! Your cable crunches are to die for.

Main I came across this painting online and it reminded me of you.

Wow. WOW!! That is one impressive workout! You basically killed it on every level - and this while feeling a bit wonky. Great, great work Frenchie! So proud of ya!!

Also, I swear by glutamine peri-w/o if you feel like you need to control insulin fluctuations.

That’s beautiful Hallowed! Reminds me of Mainy too. I always wanted to be a famous painters muse…sigh…in another life I guess.

Well done on the benching. Next time maybe skip the 150 and go straight to 155.

Kimba - I’ve been eating for gains for a while and only felt fatter and bloated. Finally I’m getting results after a few months of being a hard head. Totally enjoying the weather while we have it. Today I’m planning on a nice little run.

Nikki: barbell millitary presses / shoulder presses. Millies for short.

Hallowed that is a beautiful portrait and inspiring too. Thank you

Greenies: My crunches are very nice but the abs are barely visible due to the “eating for gains” program. As for meals, pick up an inspiring cookbook, watch food network and go to the farmers market for fresh stuff. Practice a lot and eventually cooking for yourself will be easy. It does take time and some financial means. I did not cook as a student. It’s kind of depressing when you live on 25$ a week, so I totally get the issues some people might have. As for the excuse of “time” I can whip up a weekday meal in 15-20 mins tops. faster than ordering pizza.

Print+ Soldog and Joe, my dude followers, thank you for your cheerleading. PW is a better place with a little guy perspective in here.

Cal - you might be on to something here. Next time I’ll go from 145 to 155 and see where that brings me. If I get it I will dedicate my bench goal acheivement to you.

Masch - I sure missed your effervescent posts my crazy dear  not sure I had insuline issues more like an empty belly issues. What would the symptoms be for insuline fluctuations?

In terms of doms or post-killer work out issues I’m feeling rather good today. My upper back is a little toasty but nothing more than that. I could probably hit the gym today but instead I’ll celebrate the great week I had and offer myself and active rest day with a light jog in the sunshine. Hopefully this will be fuel for next week.
