Focus on the Essential

n-Sorry to hear about it, regardless of how close you were. Hope your mom’s alright through this.

Also, Disturbed is ALWAYS a solid choice for lifting music! What other hard stuff do you like to listen to? Sevendust and Killswitch Engage always pump it up in my house!

all right it’s been what 3 weeks? I’m not going to bother verfying the info but anyways. I had more excuses to skip the gym today but I decided to throw those excuses out the window and just show up. It only takes one step to start a habit.

Deadlifts
135lbs 1x5 - felt heavy already
155lbs 1x3
185lbs 1x2
205lbs 1x1
225lbs - null - watched my hips fly up first. got angry at myself. stopped looking in the mirror and focused.
225lbs 1x1
245lbs 1x1 - saw little lights with this so made this today’s max. Not too bad.
225lbs 1x1
185lbs 1x2
155lbs 1x5

barbell military press
75lbs 1x6
85lbs 1x2 - surprised at how heavy this felt
75lbs 2x6

dumbbell bench press
30lbs 1x8 - felt easy (finally!)
35lbs 1x8 - still easy
40lbs 1x8 - can go heavier next time.

goblet squat 100lbs dumbbell
100lbs 3x8 - for speed. Last time I had done 3x15 but my conditioning was my biggest issue today. Frenchie’s a vacation smoker and paid for it. damn it. ah well.

barbell curls to get the sistard juices flowing
40lbs 1x12
50lbs 1x8
60lbs 1x2 - was aiming for more but I hit the wall and was not planning on fighting it today.

all in all not to bad but I will need to add conditioning work in the future. my cardio sucks bad.

Solid looking workout there N, regardless of how your weekend’s been. Interesting thing I just read (and I mean, like 3 minutes ago) about level of conditioning after a break, in the ACSM Position Stand (it’s for a class I’m taking) says that “A significant reduction in cardiorespiratory fitness occurs after 2 wk of detraining.” Kind of obvious, when you think about it, but you’ll get right back up there in no time. That is, if you can avoid the vacation smoking…

Thanks Ink. My lifting soundtrack usually includes the following

Disturbed
Rage Against The Machine
Rise Against
Marylin Manson
Korn
Sick Puppies
Bad Religion
Rancid
Beastie Boys
Nirvana
Hole
Billy Talent
Green day - dookie only
Limp Bizkit
Linkin Park
Live
Metallica
NOFX
Nine Inch Nails
Our Lady Peace
Pearl Jam
Pink
System of a Down
Sublime
Them Crooked Vultures
3 Days Grace

and big shiny tunes compilations…

anyone care to analyze my lifting music? lol.

You’re missing Ministry, Skinny Puppy and Coil but thats a good list.

Good work today on your deadlifts, and I know I am a page behind but your back looks absolutely fantastic and sculptural.

love the avi Owlie:) and thanks for the nice compliment

N., I’m sorry for your loss and your worries about your mom. But getting yourself to the gym was the best possible thing you could’ve done. You’ll get back your lost conditioning by the end of the month, I’ll bet.

My respect for getting past that missed deadlift. That is one thing I’ve NEVER been able to accomplish.

Sorry for you loss n.

but i do have to say nice flippers!

My back felt pretty tight today so I took it outside and ran 5.4 km in 36 minutes. Last time I ran my 5k I did it in 25. sheesh. at least the last smoke was a week ago, went to bed nice and early and slept 9 hours straight and my food was dead on today.

oats pp and rasberries
cottage cheese and cashew butter
2 hardboiled eggs & apple

supper will probably be chicken and coucous with broccoli.

If nothing else it feels good to be doing my body good again.

I’m sorry to hear that Frenchie. The good leave us far too soon and the bad never seem to be able to find the door.[/quote]

yeah, i get lost easy, so what?

(toldjya’ll im livin forever!)

N, I’m sorry for your troubles. I will tell you about my grandmothers funeral; who I still miss terribly. Because she was quite old, her service felt like a celebration of her life rather than a mourning of her death. I hope it is the same with your grandfather. Because we all go, the greatest thing is to go having really lived well.

Hey lovey, sorry to hear about your grandfather’s passing :frowning: My thoughts are with you.

Nice pulling there. And yes, it does feel good to do the body good, especially when you’re in a weird head space.

Everyone here is so hardcore with their music! i’d be mortified if you guys found my ipod…

When my mom’s partner died of lung cancer and few years ago. I did NOT want to go to the funeral. I was holding back emotion before I even got in the car to drive to the service. But, when we got there we laughed our asses off because it, similar to what Ouro mentioned, it became a celebration. I give his kids credit for focusing on the positive. I still cried though.

OK, Maschy…you can’t leave us hangin like that…what bright and sparkly music do you have on your iPod?

I’ll take a guess…

Maschy, Prince?? Party like its 1999!

Hey N, hope your having a good day…

Thanks for the cheers everyone. I did manage a joke or 2 in my little text. He was sick for a long time, I see this as a deliverance.

Masch: I was thinking Milli Vanelli

MIM- not to bad considering my sleep was awful last night. I just couldn’t hit the deep sleep zone and kept waking up. grrr.

“What’s a beautiful girl like you doing racing in a place like this?”

“Winning” insert evil smile

went to the gym despite the crappy sleep.

Bench
95lbs 1x8
115lbs 1x5
135 4x1 - happy with those. focused on keeping tight after unracking. I’m great for setting up but I collapse once the bar is in my hands. silly girl.
115lbs 1x5

close-grip cable row
85lbs 1x8 - easy
95lbs 1x8
105lbs 1x6
125lbs 1x4
145 1x1 - just for the hell of it to see how heavy it was. Wasn’t pretty but still a PR + 20lbs (my stack goes from 125 to 145. kinda weird).
105lbs 1x6

abs: lying leg raise on bench with 8kg medecine ball between the knees.
2x25 with 30 seconds hold on last rep.

chinups
1x2
with 1 band
1x2
with 2bands
1x4

pullups with 2 bands
1x4

damn these sucked bad. you are only as strong as your weakest link. I hate them and they hate me right back.

20 minutes of inclined treadmill workout to bust a sweat.

On a different note I have gained 5 lbs since I last weighed myself. Now at 155, hence those pullups and chinup were harder than last time. Hopefully with being back in the gym and the clean eats I’ll drop that x-tra 5lbs easy. if it were all muscle I’d be happy but ma ass is telling me nada. At 150lbs I was able to keep making gains while seeing definition so that’s my goal weight. To get to 145 I need to add a tone of cardio and I stop making strength progress. So 150lbs it is.

food was good today
breakfast: oats choco pp and rasberries
lunch: canned tuna on baby spinach - dressing plain fat free yogourt with a dallop of pesto. spoonfull of cashew butter
pre-workout: plain yogourt with sugar-free apple sauce sprinkled with oates
poste-workout: banana pp with tablespoon of fish oil
supper: steaks, potatoes, mushrooms, spinach.

no smokin, no alcohol. This is so easy when I put my mind to it…

Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
Lovely benching.

Well you’re doing better than a lot of people; people who didn’t just come off from a break.
So still good work.

Heh, “my ass is telling me nada.” You’re funny, girlie.

I’m drooling over yer breakfast!

you probably wouldnt have to do a ‘ton of cardio,’ that is unless you weren’t willing to give up some of those carbos… which I get the feeling you wouldn’t
