Floor Press Carryover to Bench?

How much of a carryover could I expect? I read somewhere that most people floor press less then they can bench. Is this true?

In an untrained individual, with their ROM stopping before their chest, the extra stability and reduced ROM seems to mean a bigger floor press than bench. Every person I have trained with floor presses more than they bench until they get their arch and leg drive to a good level.

I still floor press more than I can bench, but it is a good indicator of my raw and shirted bench. One of my training partners is the same, but the other two get more out of flat benching. Anyhow, thats my experience. Don’t be too shocked if it’s higher than your flat bench, or vice versa, and figure if getting a better floor press equals a bigger bench for you, as it is an individual thing.

i can bench press around 30 pounds more than i can floor press, not only that but my flat bench tends to regress after a week or two on floor press. so i dont do it no more, incline and overhead pressing works for me as well as CG benching.

Even before I discovered proper leg drive my floor press was way below my bench press. Like smokotime said, anyone with an ok arch should do more on bench press.

I floor press a lot less than my flat bench. Bitch tris

It all depends on the person. If you have weak tris then your floor press may be way less. If you have weak pecs and shoulders, then your full ROM bench may be less. It would be something good to test to see where your weakness lies if you dont already know.

I prefer floor press, because i dont have to find a bench to do them, and they have gotten rid of my shoulder impingement. The only problem with doing strictly floor press, as I am doing, is that my bottom part of the ROM is getting no work and will be weak. I’ll probably start training full ROM bench sometime soon but keep volume low and use DB’s to fix this weakness.

Using same grip width and set up?
