Flex Lewis Getting Ready for Arnold Classic

I really like the 212 mr Olympia and the NPC nationals as far as what I would like to look like.

He does look like a beast in that photo. Bravo

As for Lewis competing in an open class @ 5’ 5’', it may seem like the cards are stacked against him. I know a LOT has changed over time, however Franco Colombu was a 2x Olympia winner standing at the same height.

Not to mention, let us remember though that just 5 years ago The Blade at (5’ 6’)’ took home the Mr. Olympia too! I mean, yeah, “The Gift” has arrived and all that, but it shouldn’t discourage hopes of us seeing shorter competitors go toe to toe with the other open division competitors. Just my opinion (and I know saying that is redundant).

I read that Flex is competing in the 212 class still. I forget, does the Arnold have different classes? Of course I can look it up myself…

Not heavier than Yates. I mean Lewis looks at least 20-30lbs heavier than 220lbs. 240-250 somewhere.

buffd:

AFAIK Lewis is still doing 212s, I was just saying that according to the general consensus, he’d be outclassed in an open division. That’s not my view of things though.

I honestly think that if Flex came in with absolute peak conditioning by this time next Olympia he could take anyone in the open that we saw this year. Wish he would do it as ive been severely disappointed with the O the last few years

Ah, gotcha. Yeah it is hard to believe he’s only 220 in that picture. When it comes to short guys though they look deceptively large when not standing next to normal height individuals.

A friend of mine whos about 5’10 @ 180lbs has a pic of him shaking hands with branch from last year and you’d never believe Branch was an O level bodybuilder going by that picture.

Was the angle also good?

Got it, thanks.
I agree with you here for the most part.

Yeah, they are just standing right next to eachother, pic taken from the front with Branch angled slightly closer to the camera.

Dont get me wrong, he looked like one diesel little mofo but he didnt look “huge”

The owner of the gym I go too, stopped me the other day for a chat. He showed me the pic of flex and we had a talk. According to his friend, Flex’s trainer; Neil Hill. The game plan was to win 3 olympia’s 212 and then move to the open class. So from the sounds of it…Were be seeing him up with the big guys soon.

Hope thats true. No doubt by that time he’ll bring an even more impressive package.

Flex looks amazing, but he is not 5’5. Having met and talked to him numerous times he can’t be anymore than 5’2. I felt like a towering giant next to him and I am not very tall.

To me his frame seems almost 100% filled out to its max. I don’t think he would do very well in the open standing next to monsters like Rhoden and Ramy.

Bauber, were you both wearing shoes on? Without literal even footing, it can be difficult to ascertain height. I’m not saying you’re wrong, since in all sports height is often exaggerated, I’m just asking. I know that while Arnold is often quoted at being 6’ 2’’ back in the day, the real assessment was about an inch shorter.

I had no shoes on during one of the occasions and he was wearing boots. (Was backstage before pre-judging.) And there is no way he is 5’5 not even close.

They list Dennis Wolf as 5’11 too, which is absolutely false haha. That man is every bit of 6’3ish.

Thanks for the response. See, now I’m embarrassed about even bringing up the subject of height in my first post in this thread.

Height is almost always bullshit, especially when it comes to athletics. I have a friend who’s 6’ 1’’ and is insecure about it for some reason, so if you ask him, he calls himself “6’ 3’‘’ with shoes on.” Or how about the amount of 5’ 10’’ dudes who are supposedly 6 foot (when you ask them)? More common than a toothpick in a toothpick factory.

Sorry for getting off topic here. If Flex really is closer to 5’ 2’’ than 5’ 5’', maybe putting him next to dudes like Wolf wouldn’t raise his chances. Had my hopes, haha…

Lol don’t be. He is definitely wide, but just was not an impressive person up close in regular clothes like some of the monsters are.

I am 5’11 and 3/4’s exactly and oddly enough I wish I was a bit shorter haha. No offense to Flex he looks amazing and dominates the 212 class, but he would get outsized and look like a shrimp in the open with the likes of Ramy, Wolf, Kai, Centopani, and even Phil.
