when you do your board pressing do you have a training partner/spotter hold the board or do you just rest it on there?

that last dunk vid was nice. It looked super easy! I havent jumped in a while… feeling like trying a few jumps soon. sucks that the new gym doesnt have a court.[/quote]

I usually just put it under my shirt. I’ve done it with the board on top of the shirt but it feels way less stable. Shirt kind of keeps it in place. Thanks man. It’s hard to tell from that angle but I caught it from fairly far out. There will be plenty more coming soon. What gym are you at now? Still going to the one with the loading dock in the back?

Music for the day. Been jamming this dude lately, and can’t get this song out of my heavy rotation-

yeah I’m still at the gym with the loading dock. its so close to the house that its hard to pass up. there is a rec center about 10 minutes from my place but the hours are weird there and I’ve been more focusing on my gym time rather than hoops. The three times that i’ve gone out there before I was supposed to lift I got sucked into playing some full court runs and then didnt hit the gym after lol.

Knee’s pretty achey, taking the night off. I’ll holler.

Well, wrote a long ass post that apparently didn’t make it through, so I’ll cliffs note it:

Thinking of running an experiment. Obviously don’t ever actually do DE lower, just play ball and lift 3 days a week. After reading the squat & sprint article I have an idea. For DE lower days, was thinking of using hang cleans supersetted with full court sprints after ball work, spread out over between 5-8 sets. I can set up a bar 15 feet from the court, do my cleans, walk to the baseline and put my feet to the beat. The only 2 drawbacks are I’m gonna have to get in there before work 'cause the courts are packed from 3pm til lights off at 11pm, and all of a sudden everything’s starting to come back, and I don’t want to throw a wrench in my progress. If anyone has comments or suggestions, fire away

^^^^ HAHAHAHAHA. Is it sad that I didn’t watch the clip but can still quote it verbatim?

I haven’t read that article yet but I’ll check it out. I mean if you’re going for explosiveness, power and trying to stay/get lean I can’t see anything working much better than cleans and sprints supersets… Sounds like it would incredibly hard though. I’m getting gassed just thinking about it lol

Well, I’m not really trying to get/stay lean, that’s just kind of how my body naturally stays. Doing the sprint/clean superset couldn’t hurt though. The article talked about doing the combo from a size gaining perspective. I was just thinking that it could be a killer combo for athleticism. I’m kind of a weirdo though in that what ever I’m doing right now is working well, and I don’t want to jinx it.

I’m realistically probably only 4-5" or so off from where I was at my peak, and that has me all kinds of pumped. And, yeah, it does sound hard as shit. Guess I’ll give 'em a go and see what happens. My work schedule is pretty crazy over the next few days, but think I have Sunday off, and if so I’ll post a new dunk vid. I’ve got some new [old] tricks in the bag that I haven’t caught on cam yet.

Well, went to my roommates gym to do the superset and sho nuff they were having some kind of orientation so it didn’t happen. Shot around on the outdoor half court they have then stretched for probably half an hour. Gonna chill for a bit then probably go to my gym and play some ball. If my knee’s feeling up to it I’ll get a vid up.

Well, “going to play ball” turned into “grabbing drinks with buddies and staying out way too late”. I feel like ass right now. Gotta work from 1:30-10-ish, and am gonna hit the gym after, if I don’t die. Stay tuned sports fans.

I’d be interested in how this works out and I don’t think it would slow anything down if you are still having productive sessions otherwise.

How does your knee handle sprints?

I was thinking don’t even worry about the superset stuff. Just do some power snatch/cleans, then go run some sprints after. I’m thinknig about trying some of this if my schedule permits me getting to a track a couple a days a week, just to regain some athleticism. Maybe even add some bounding, heidens, and plyos in too.

The only time I sprint is during the course of a pick up game. My knee has the normal pains it always does, but if I’m loose and feeling good sprinting doesn’t seem to make it worse.

Hmmm, your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Seriously, after reading what you wrote I was thinking after playing I could do some kind of box jumps, hang snatches/cleans then either hit the court or go behind the gym and run sprints. I don’t ever do box jumps but I’m pretty good at 'em and to be able to hit my height [5’9"] on a box jump would be fucking awesome. That’s a new goal too. Gonna try what we’re thinking here for a few weeks and see what happens.

You two honey drippin’ motherfuckers had me at hello.

Well, despite the fact I was hungover all day, felt like shit and didn’t get to the gym 'til about 10, actually had a pretty productive session.

Shot around for 20 minutes as a warm-up

Upper mobility

Speed bench-barx2x15,95xx?,135x8x3 alternating grips, 40 sec rest

Standing db military-25’sx2x5, 50’sx3x8 + wide grip pull-ups-4x10

db bench-40’sx?, 80’sx3x8,8,7 + rope pulls to neck-4x15,12,12,12

arms

Pushed the pace on this one. Everything went up 'cept the db bench, though I got 3 sets of 8 at a different gym with different db’s last week. No worries either way as I was moving through way faster last night. Gotta work ‘til damn near 9 and am supposed to go grab drinks with this sassy lil’ philly I met the other night, but think I’ma hit her with a raincheck 'cause I need to do ME lower. Y’all be good.

Well, was gonna blow off some broad to get to the gym after work, but I ended up blowing both off and going home and passing out. Gotta work about 18 hours between today and tomorrow, so think I’m just gonna foam roll and do some mobility stuff the rest of the week. My schedule’s a lot more user friendly next week so I’m picking back up. Also gonna give that DE idea a go on Tuesday. Y’all be good.

Last night- Shot around for about 45 minutes, upper mobility,

2-board bench [no pause]-barx2x10 to chest, 95x5,135x5,155x5,185x3,205x3,215x3,225x3,240x3,185x9 to chest

db inc-40’sx?,75’sx8,7,7 + cable row-90x10,150x10,160x10,10

clean into strict press-105x3x7 + scarecrows-4x10

db curls.

I was absolutely draggin’ ass in the gym yesterday. I couldnt get loose no matter what, was yawning through the whole workout and nothing felt right. Even shooting around the ball felt like a foreign object I’d never held before. Also, I think I prefer paused board presses to touch and go. Have to be at work in about 4 hours, so gonna hit the gym in about an hour and get some shots up and do some sprints. My knee’s super achey today, but it be what it be. Y’all be good.

I hate when I’m sleepy at the gym. It’s suck a weird feeling… Sucky.

Looking forward to hearing about that clean n sprint workout if you do it. Seems like it would be brutal
