That workout that nearly killed me - did it again and conquered it.
100 2-pump burpees with 2 squat chasers, 2 lunges, and 2 knee raises to opposite elbows. Same blacktop, same heat, PLENTY of water this time, drowned in sweat. Feeling pretty drained now but it was awesome just getting after it.
4 eggs, some thick slabs of a strip steak I cooked last night heated up in the pan, and some boiled potatoes also diced up and heated up in the pan. Carbs and starchy stuff are rare enough in my diet that potatoes are more of a highlight in the meal than the steak, haha.
100 burpees followed by half hour on the assault bike, and a bunch of pull-ups and rows on my rings later. More steak and eggs, a protein shake, and tonight is chicken breast with melted fresh mozzarella, lettuce and tomato on low carb buns with lite mayo.
Been doing 100 burpee workouts in my new 20# weight vest - the heat makes it quite an ordeal.
Great gym workouts sprinkled in.
Hit 100 pullups and 200 pushups yesterday, all with strict form, VERY quickly and without too much fatigue.
The couple week hiatus on here was largely due to an impromptu trip to a cabin in the Shenandoah valley - saw some sweet caverns, did a big and super legit maze with the kids, did some climbing stuff, ate good food, also found keto bread that I like and have been adding keto french toast as a dessert option.
Anyway, weight hovered around 203-205, got back to town, got back to work, and this morning, woke up to this:
For reference, weighed 230 in April. Definitely saw some 231’s and 2’s during that time too. Minimum of 31 pounds dropped in 3 months. All indications are that it was all fat, haha. Currently seeing the top 4 abs, meaning we’re down to the real difference-making fat pounds. Veins in arms pronounced, back looks lean - I’m probably going to keep going down to 190. Will post some pics at that point - I’m already super happy with how I look and this would probably be a mentally healthy place to sit at indefinitely but I’ve put enough work in and am at that point where you start to notice little changes almost every day so I can’t just cut it off now!
100 rocking-chair burpees with knee-raise chasers and 50 pullups all while wearing 20# weight vest
Post workout meal:
4 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of keto french toast (40 cal / 6 net carbs / 2g protein per slice, dipped in whole eggs) with sugar free syrup (15 cal / 2 tbsp)
Went to a concert, didn’t miss any workout days until Sunday when, after 3 years, I got my first dose of covid.
Really knocked me on my ass - Sunday AND Monday I was barely capable of moving, standing felt like I was about to pass out. Usually after a bad onset I’m moving around some to get things flowing again but it just wasn’t happening on Monday.
I certainly didn’t lose any muscle, and woke up at 195.5, haha. Feeling a lot better today - standing still makes me feel dizzy but I got outside before people started getting home from work and took a mile walk, and got my appetite back - a couple pieces of sushi and I’m going to eat a burger with a keto bun in a bit. Back at it tomorrow.
Back to work today - still quite tired, but managed to get through.
Walked a mile after work, did some pushups, ran the mile home. No one around, nice day, but man - covid is still doing a number on me…all the symptoms are gone as in no more sore throat, nausea, muscle aches, fever, none of the awful stuff, but there was a deep fatigue hiding just under the surface that popped up just a couple minutes into my walk, then REALLY popped up during the pushups. The run home was weird - not out of breath, but a side-splitting cramp.
Oh well - everyone seems to have different effects, this was a super benign way of dipping my toe back in. I felt fine a couple minutes after stopping running and feel great this evening - demolished two 1/3 pound 80/20 chuck burgers with cheese on keto buns.
Appreciate you writing this, obviously it’s how I figured things were gonna go but it’s alarming the first time, haha. Feel fine all day and then BOOM, feel like a pile of bricks upon walking outside after months of crushing burpees in the sweltering heat and feeling like an ironman. Fortunately, some post-fatigue makes me one of the lucky ones in all this.
After a few years of avoiding covid some people began to ask if I thought I was immune and I was like “I have no idea but I’m damn sure not saying I am because I’ll be in the hospital the next day”. Well, it was only a couple days but it was one of the worst I’ve ever felt, so yeah - not immune and got beat up pretty bad.
I’m glad I don’t lift weights as often as you do either, I imagine the post-covid strength test is pretty disappointing.
I actually forced myself to do burpees everyday through covid. It was weird because whilst it was painful I was able to just zone out and get it done. But then 10 mins after every session I just crashed with the worst fatigue I have ever had and had to sleep.
Strength was a little down but nothing too bad, it was more the conditioning that was hard work.
Thursday was 100 rocking chair burpees with knee raises and 50 pullups followed by a bunch of hanging leg raises.
Yesterday was a leg workout at the gym followed by rope crunches and more hanging leg raises.
Today I’m pretty sure I’m going to test the waters and do 100 navy seals - some fatigue is still there and I’ve now begun to get a bit of a chesty cough - not one you get where you have an active chest infection but more like the lungs beginning to expel a bunch of phlegm post-sickness. Either way it’s going to make it interesting.
Finished the navy seals from the last post but didn’t feel great afterwards, and the next day I did a pyramid with 100 pullups and 200 pushups, ended up coming home and puking for a while - lost my appetite totally, felt sick all over again.
Decided to stop being an idiot and let my immune system do its thing, rested all of yesterday, ate a bunch of healthy delicious food - eggs, beef, pasta, bread, goats cheese, hummus, etc. - and felt great today. Didn’t chase the lunch workout as usual, hit legs after work and then mowed the lawn, now going to eat some ribeye and some pasta, then going to finish watching Gladiator and get some good sleep.
