Flamethrowing

Jared NFS - Thanks, man, that thread is just too funny! I obviously haven’t been spending enough time in T-Land, because I missed that one…

Mike, let us know how the little exeriment goes on calling the wifey-poo a “fucktard”. If you don’t post for awhile, we’ll assume you’re recuperating from the injuries sustained.

Mamann,

Wifey and I just got back from the gym.

After doing my shrugs I politely asked her to help me unload the plates (yes, I know, I’m being lazy).

After declining my request, in the nicest possible voice I said “thanks for nothing, fucktard.”

I’m eating cereal for dinner tonight as a result. NOT a good move. I did like the way “fucktard” rolled off the tongue, though.

But getting back to the main issue, Jeff Rage asked if I was referring to the Neil post when I made this one. Actually, I wasn’t. Threads that end up with 90 plus posts usually end up beneficial to everyone.

I was referring more to when someone posts a question, gets 5 or 6 harsh flames, and you never see that person on here again. That’s the kind of shit I hate to see happen.

Mike

M.F., that’s freakin’ hilarious!

You are braver than I am, though. I’ve just decided that as soon as I post this, I’m going to give the ole ex wifey-poo a call and wait the standard 5 to 10 seconds for her to give me a reason to give her a pleasant little “fucktard” retort.

She’d expect nothing less of me.

(Man, that does kind of roll off the tongue, doesn’t it?)

Mike, I hope you have a nice couch!

I got flammed when I first starting posting. Someone told me to use the search. I felt kinda stupid for not using it. So, I learned to do searches before I post new threads.

Jeff,

the couch is nice and comfy, luckily for me. She seems to have gotten over it, although she admittedly saw absolutely NO humor in “fucktard”.

I agree that there have been some very good points raised here on both sides.

It’s certainly true that - generally speaking - there’s no really good reason to be egregiously rude to someone. But let’s look at what happens here on the forums. Not what could happen, or what, in an ideal, kinder, gentler world would happen, but what really happens.

Let’s say that Newbie A posts a stupid/lazy question. S/he gets flamed. S/he goes away.

So: now there are two issues. One, the forum loses either a potential contributor OR a total tool. While there is some possibility of the former, chances are astronomically higher that it will be the latter.

Two,said newbie probably will not become a T-person. While this is certainly regrettable, let’s face it: if getting a few harsh comments over the internet is enough to drive you away, you probably don’t have the stick-to-it-ivessness to make any real change in your physique. I mean really. Can anyone honestly argue differently?

But wait, there’s more! Now let’s look at the other side of the coin. Let’s say that we treat all newbies with the utmost respect. No harsh language allowed. We can instruct, we can tell them (politely) to use the search engine or whatever, but it is forbidden to flame anyone. The worst that we can do is ignore a given post and simply not answer it.

In this case, first, someone will probably answer it and give the newbie the info s/he wants. So Newbie A gets an answer. Second, there is no real negative feedback, and thus no real reason for the newbie to do his or her own searches. Sure, some might, but the majority of people being lazy, the majority won’t. They’ll just keep on posting and getting answers without any criticism.

Since there is a relatively finite number of people who (a) have a decent level of knowledge and (b) will take the time to share it, it stands to reason that the newbies will, by sheer numbers, come to dominate the forums. Not only that, but the vets, getting sick and tired of trying to deal with the flood of newbieness, will leave.

People, this is the real point. And again - this actually happens, has happened here, and undoubtedly will happen again.

How many of you remember Bodz? Got tired of people telling him that he didn’t know what he was talking about (when he did) and left. Great poster, fantastic amount of knowledge (he was the first real forum stud), now gone.

How many remember Whopper? I know Timbo does. Whopper was pretty much single-handedly responsible for Timbo’s fantastic transformation from stick-man to T-stud. But again, a bunch of non-contributors gave him a bunch of shit about stuff and he finally split. Too bad.

Mufasa? Gone. Booga-brain? Gone. Hell, even Bill Roberts, a god among us mere mortals and blessed with the patience of a saint when it comes to answering the same questions again and again, finally got fed up. (Don’t believe me? Do a search on finasteride and see for yourself. You’ll get an hour’s worth of reading, 2/3 of which will be BR explaining the relationship between finasteride and steroids over and over and over…)

I could go on, but I think that the point is made.

So while there’s usually no excuse for rudeness, I’ll reiterate my initial point that it serves as a prophlactic measure here on this forum. And, yes, honestly speaking, a lot of the time it just plain makes me feel better to flame the crap out of some guy who won’t take the time to do a little reading. If that makes me immature or a bad person… well, I guess I’m immature or a bad person. On the other hand, I’m still here, plugging away. As is TEK. As is goldberg, and several other vets.

I think that counts for something too.

I’m confused, is a fucktard a person who fucks retards? Or a person who fucks like a retard?

Top post Char, you mentioned some legendary forumites there. Damn I wish they were still here.

Nicely said, char.

For those of us who’ve been here for the duration, we’ve seen people come and go, both good and bad, for the reasons char gave.

I think the board is a better place now for the “weeding out” of those who want easy answers, who don’t want to work, who talk but don’t act. You know, Bob from Shugs’ infamous Atomic Dog. We don’t need Bob’s here.

As you can see by some responses here, quite a few people who are STILL here were flamed for laziness in asking a question when they first got here. They’re still here, and we’re glad they are. I don’t think anybody mentioned that they were inappropriately flamed for their initial questions. You ask a question that hasn’t been answered before either in the forum or the mag, and you’ll get a helpful, honest answer.

And I notice that several people who are complaining about this don’t post much in T/N either. That’s hypocrisy, guys. Either do something about what you perceive to be the problem, or shut up. It’s that simple.

And a fucktard is a fucking retard, BTW.

want a quick chuckle? Pick the name of a few posters who you feel are guilty of flaming unnecessarily, go to the search engine and type it in …read some of their first posts and see if they didn’t ask the same things that they now flame.
just an observation.

Yeah man, I hate the people that if someone asks “What stimulants should I take pre-workout in your opinion?” they instead of saying “Caffiene, Ephedrine, Yohimbe” (or whatever) they actually take MORE EFFORT to write “This topic has been covered many times before and you should re read the back issues of t-mag or other posts.” Jesus people get a fuckin life and give a serious answer that the person is looking for. People do this for alot of easy 1 answer questions. How do you know they didn’t already check the back issues?

I’ve been posting here for 2 1/2 years and when I first started, I got flamed a few times. Some of my most intelligent posts were:

1)I’ve been doing “enter name”'s workout and I’m not getting sore. Should I increase the volume. Charles Staley chimed in and stated “If you want to get sore, then I could always hit you with a car.” Then he explained that soreness should not be an indicator of the progress of a program. It should be whether you are progressing .

  1. I’m currently trying to lose weight and am doing around 25 sets. Should I increase the sets to help with the fat burn.

I got some pretty harsh answers but I got over it and learned more. If someone is going to run away just because they got flamed, than maybe they are not in this for the long haul. And this is not aimed at any one person, but why is some people so thin skinned on this board some times. It’s an internet chat room. It’s just words.

Damn, JasonL, you really asked those questions? Can we flame you again?

There are some thin skin bastards on here. Anybody want any cheese with that whine? the best way to learn is to do the searches and read the back issues. If you are too damn lazy to do that then you need to go back to stamp collecting. Its not that hard. find some shit out on your own. experiment. read all you can. ask informed questions. If people leave the forum because of what certain individuals may say about them then that person really needs to evaluate their own lives. What somebody who doesnt know you says about you should not bother you. If it does you gotta wonder how secure of a human being you really are. If you are that insecure then you need to maybe realize somethings about yourself. There were many times where i didnt care if i came back to the forum or not. There wasnt much information being posted on here, because it was all newbies asking if 30 grams of protein was better than 29. That gets old. The addition of the photo forum and the dog pound have increased my interest. I know post my workouts and i answer questions that some may have on westside. These are usually legitimate questions and these questions help me evaluate my own training and thought processes. But when you see the same stupid questions being posted day after day you are going to lose interest. thats just the way it is.

I’ma say this: I am a newbie (well sorta, don’t post-just read) but when I need to have an answer or a critique, I never got a bad response. Everyone who had information about my questions has been helpful and I learned a lot from this site and not just from the articles.

It’s rare I find somebody worthy of my advise. Since I am too good, I tell them to read the back issues because it’s simply not worthy of my full attention. I say fuck the newbies!

Bud, if you think that the length of time it takes to answer a post is the relevant factor, I have to say that you either didn’t read what I wrote above or didn’t understand it, one of the two.

It’s not the time.

If a person has real respect for one individual and wants that individual’s input, he should ask for it specifically. (I’ve done this with my Westside thread, for example.) If he just wants a slew of answers, then yes, he should check the forum archives, as there are plenty there for him. Not doing this is tantamount to saying, “I want some info, but instead of me taking the time to look it up, I want all of you to take your time and give it to me.” That won’t fly.

And how do we know that they haven’t checked the back issues? 'Cause if they had, they wouldn’t be asking the damn question, that’s how! No one has ever been directed to the back issues for an original question.

Sheesh.

Amen Goldberg. why should I waste my time answering a question, when they won’t waste their time looking for an answer. Here’s a little story.
In feudal Japan, a young man wanted to become a great swordsman. He was happy to find out that one of his country’s greatest living swordsman ran a small restaurant in town.
One day he wnet and asked the master to teach him swordsmanship. The master told him to report to his restaurant the next day at noon. When he showed up, he was immediately put to work in the kitchen.
Every day he showed up at noon, and every day he had to clean, cook, do dishes, and straighten up. This went on for months.
Finally he asked the master if he planned to teach him, or did he just wanted some cheap labor. The master promised to start his lessons the next day.
Whe the young lad was drying some dishes the master snuck in and cracked him on the back of the legs with a bamboo shaft. Of course the young man yelped and screamed. probably somethin to the effect of what the f$#%. This training kept on for days.
One time after many weeks , the young man heard the master and caught the bamboo shaft with his right hand without even turning away from the sink. The master then said, " Now we start to train." Get the point.

irondoc, weren’t you responsible for the development of much of feudal Japan?
