I can’t say if your husband is a genius but he’s a genius. I’m going to need to plan sequence and timing on this. Salty first or sweet? Hmmm. Can I petition Netflix to introduce an autopausing feature…
I believe you want carbs going in, with protein to follow to cement any gains you may make while watching. So maybe start with pretzels or chips and salsa, then bring in some peanut brittle or chocolate covered almonds.
Holy hell I’ve been away for too long.
I confess I’ve been spending wayy too much time on discord. Average daily screentime has gone up 2hrs ![]()
I justify it as “much needed social interaction”
Good news is that I have an accountability buddy and we motivate each other to get work/maths done
I confess that Discord* is one of the many words bandied about by young people that I have no–and I mean no–idea as to what they mean.
*In this context
I think It’s basically a social media site for students.
Hehe I saw that
The plane that The BeeGees toured on?
(Disco/Concord=Discord!
)
Slightly related, something that has now well and truly escaped me is what words outside of nouns, verbs and adjectives are/do… see, I don’t even remember how to describe them haha
Adverb, prepositions, articles, etc haven’t the faintest anymore. Pronoun would also be in that list if it wasn’t for Facebook and Proper Nouns because I have always liked to drop that in a discussion about labelling things (which I need to do surprisingly often for me job)
I assume if I were to live long enough, I’d just end up pointing and grunt .
It’s basically a collection of a bunch of fairly anonymous group chats - both public and private
Related: a not insignificant amount of communication with my family consists of “a”. It can be a way to get someone’s attention, a question, or acknowledgement depending on the tone (I’m chinese)
So, like TNation?
More like text group chats. A lot more real time communication/less forum-y @EyeDentist
They brought back AOL chatroooms
I still don’t get it. ![]()
It’s like writing on a bathroom wall except you’re watching the guy do it and then you immediately write something back to him.
It’s similar to Skype, or Microsoft teams, just in more depth. You can join “servers” and either text chat OR voice chat. It’s used for video gaming a lot, so you can be in a server with the people you’re playing a game with, and all talk to each other outside of the game. Otherwise, as others have said, it’s a real-time instant messaging application.

Thanks, that helped a lot!
TBH, I never knew what Discord really is until I read @flappinit 's link either. I always thought it was one of those real time interactive platforms where girls do non-pornographic but sexually suggestive stuff in front of the camera for tips lol.
I’ve been playing video games online, on and off, since the beta of Counter-Strike in 2000, and the first voice application that we used to communicate outside of the game was Ventrilo, which came out around then, maybe in 2002. Certified lifelong video game nerd here, although I obviously haven’t really been able to devote any time to it in the years since my kids were born. There have been a few different programs between that and Discord, and it was a threadbare communication system before, whereas now you can show everyone what’s on your screen, and do all sorts of other things. No doubt, there are servers where people are sharing porn, or illicit material, but mostly it’s just a bunch of nerds.
First one we used was our voices, yelling down the hallway between the computers we had connected with an ethernet cable playing Red Alert.
