Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

How does that work?

I thought research grants occurred higher up the chain to perform research?

That sounds more like a refund.

It’s an undergrad summer research grant.

My school is very good at making sure the kids don’t waste time in the summer

So what is the work product of this grant?

Theoretically a paper about impressions, but if I fail to catch typos again, I might not get the work done…

My advisor is OCD. Granted, I do have a problem and it might be for the best, but god it’s annoying that he can’t look past a couple of extra spaces or minor formatting issues

Since he’s refusing to speed things up, I’ve been spending a lot of time reading papers for a project next semester, chatting w/ CS ppl on discord and cooking

Well, we got no mercy on stuff like that at CCAC, so I don’t see why there would be any wiggle room at CMU, a much more high powered and respected school.

Can you think of any reasons why that would be the case?

My friend’s advisor isn’t like that. (His advisor also doesn’t spend 20 min talking about the politics of the world cup or cats though )

This got a healthy chortle out of me.

If it was a refund, I shouldn’t have to submit an proposal- which I finished in NOVEMBER but didn’t get properly looked at until MARCH b/c my advisor went MIA and I missed a few commas and used british spelling.

To him to respond, I had to reach out to my academic advisor, who then suggested me to reach out to another academic advisor, who then had to get in touch with another professor before finally getting to him

Also, the research office wouldn’t have needed to reach out to me because my advisor was late submitting my rec letter and couldn’t be reached by email

… AND the business office (responsible for administering the payments) wouldn’t have delayed my award because HE wouldn’t respond to their emails, or the email by the undergrad research office telling him to respond to the business office emails

He’s a great person, but I really don’t think I’ll ever want to work with him again. With my failure to ā€œget the basics rightā€, I don’t even think I’ll get a good rec letter

#end rant

Got under your skin a little, huh!?!

I’m still going with refund for unused room and board.

It just makes more sense. ochams razor and all that…

(Dont get too mad. I’m just playing a little)

I’m pretty sure both of my nieces were RA’s at some point too. I dunno what they would have done with all of this.

I chose to study first impressions because I hated them. Turns out not only was mum right about impressions mattering, it’s 100x worse than I imagined

I’ve lived and died by them. People run Really hot or Really freaking cold with me based on the first couple seconds.

No amount of performance will change a bad one either. Not in my experience anyways.

that’s what the evidence suggests…
They did studies where ppl formed impressions of a face. They then came back a couple of weeks later- forgot the face, but remembered the impression
There’s another study where then showed ppl with severe alzheimers faces- the patients forgot the face but again, remembered the impression…

You should see my kids school security/police officer. He was a former task force, under cover/drug agent.

Every time he sees me his hair stands on end, he grabs where his gun was and he bird dogs the shit out of me the entire time I’m at the school.

We’ve never spoken or interacted other than to nod politely. I might have chuckled a little and gave him a thumbs up the first time he did that.

My husband is a dyslexic engineer and can butcher the language like it’s his job, about which I don’t care. Reading colleagues’ shitty case notes makes me feel a bit superior, but other than that, I don’t care. However, if someone else’s writing reflects on me professionally, I expect them to come correct and will aggressively pursue that that be the case.

That said, we do Dragon Dictation where I work now, so everyone’s shit is butchered and we all just laugh over the insertion of ā€œhaving Elysium workā€ where it should be ā€œhas been missing some work,ā€ and I occasionally have to do the same head-tilt over my own writing that I do over my husband’s, like the text he once sent that read ā€œI feel you wind.ā€

I need a relatively easy, cardio based workout that doesn’t use the upper back or tax the legs much

Ideas pls
I have a 25lb kb, a 45lb kb and an elliptical

Define easy lol

I’m just going on an easy weighted walk w/the 25

Wtf…I guess her condition affected brain cells too

Confession: I’ve been MIA lately cause I just moved in. Second flight in a matter of 1 week has really messed up my body clock. Still lots to do with the apartment and preparing for work but…

I’m already looking into gyms nearby. It’s only day 2 of being in the apartment

I’m soooo glad I got my workout in this morning instead of waiting. I think I ate something bad bc I feel really sick and tired now.

I don’t think I’ve spent this much time in bed since kidney surgery

Daily work NOT happening
