I confess I don’t know what “GFH” means, but I love pre-meal meals and post-meal meals, so it got my ‘Like’!

Get F**king Huge
I pre-dinner my own dinners sometimes.
Totally unrelated: weight cut is stagnant.
I hate it when people are late
That’s the best part about HBS so far. people are on time
Early in my career, one of my mentors told me to always ask for as high of a salary as I could while keeping a straight face - and that shit works. While I have never gotten the amount I ask for - I’ve always gotten more than I expected. My advice is to know your worth, ask for that and add an up charge because they’re also getting the pleasure of interacting with you on an almost daily basis - and let’s be honest, that is PRICELESS!!
I really need to get better at this. I lose confidence when it comes to the wage question and have under-bid myself many times. I like the straight face part, that is a great approach!
I think an important question to ask yourself is “how much is the least you are willing to take” and know that number beforehand. Don’t disclose it, just know what it is. I think @QuadQueen already said it perfectly so nothing more to add for the top-end ask.
Also, never be the first person to mention money.
Disagree, companies will keep you as low as possible, never discussing wages doesn’t help. I’ve brought up wage issues a number of times and walked away with 5 figure raises multiple times, never been fired/demoted/retaliated against.
Also, in an interview setting, getting their expected range earlier rather than later is sometimes helpful. If they’re offering 25-35% less than what I am actually expecting (not even what i’m shooting for), then I don’t need to bother spending days prepping and hours interviewing.
I am curious, how often/soon do you usually ask for a raise after starting a new job? Assuming you did not get the top end of their pay range…
Right after your probationary period (usually 3 months) or if the company does annual performance reviews then at those reviews.
If you did not get the top of their pay range and you have any type of review (end of year or at end of probations like mentioned above) where they tell you how good of a job you are doing etc then it’s the prime time to ask for more money.
Based on just common sense… If you are shown to be an asset worth the top end of their pay range then you deserve it. Period.
Also is there really ever a better time to ask for more money after they have just told how great you are, how good your work is and justified the raise to themselves already?
I have been called a godsend my multiple people (coworkers) at my new place already (2 months in). Bosses have thanked me a lot for helping them out with many things that were never anticipated in the interview. I am pretty sure they have 90 day reviews, sounds like I have some fuel for a money conversation.
Don’t really have a model, it’s just usually when I have leverage. First time I took over a chunk of work for a guy who left, they gave me a small raise (this company was terrible, I had little experience, no portfolio, very few skills and they still underpaid me lol). I waited a month, realized it was bullshit and got ~20k more. 2nd time, I was an employee but not on a full-time contract (weird pseudo-contractor status), they wanted to keep me so I got a significant bump from where I was. 3rd time I applied for another job, got an offer ~10k more than I was making, told my boss, they got me ~18k more.
Bold of you to assume I’m being told I’m ‘great’
That is an impressive amount of pay bumps! I guess the take away is do not be afraid to ask, with leverage of course. I am always one to show what I can do first, ask for more later.
Think that is probably a go way to go about it. I’ve always developed really good relationships with my superiors too, which probably has helped me as much as my skillset.
Yesterday I didn’t do any kind of training, opting instead to smoke a beef brisket, moose ribs, and baked beans, grill venison steaks, and top it off with some collard greens and home made mac and cheese. We passed the time by drinking some light beers and shooting our bows into a target off his deck.
Today I did some training.
The confession here, is that I’m now putting serious consideration into selling off my entire home gym set up and investing that into a smoker and more hunting gear.
I’m lazy and have a pellet smoker that I use constantly. Greatest father’s day gift ever.
@unicornsandrainbows Just go in there and OWN YOUR AWESOME!!!
As long as you’re dragging your target back, you can consider this a loaded carry! Though that does bring a different meaning to “sun’s out, gun’s out”…
I spent an hour finding out why my mic couldn’t wok in google meets. The error message was “your system has disabled acess” or something. Then I realized the FUCKING F4 KEY turns the mic on and off for the new laptop I’m using. Almost went and contacted MS live support (they are fucking excellent. If anyone has any problem with windows or anything to do with MS like Office, onedrive or emails, go use their live support chat.) after checking all the settings.
You see how dumb I am, @BrickHead ? Do you see???
