If it’s in an airport that is understandable.
In between rationality is where we find humanity.

FUCK INFLATION!!!
I can’t stand this shit.
Yes you can, and you will. Just like my parents did during the last inflation spike in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, and you never know what kind of unexpected surprises you get from being made poorer. There’s a good chance that inflation is what caused my young mom to give up smoking just a few short years after I was born.
Look on the bright side of things, Anna. You may be coming of age in perhaps the most tumultuous times we’ve seen in the last handful of decades, but if you manage to survive you’ll probably be better off having gone through some relatively challenging conditions.
Then, when you’re my age and older, you’ll have even more grounds than I do to complain about young people, their tattoo choices, their spending priorities, their tastes in music, their lack of appreciation for music that I like, their easy video games, not to mention the fact that most baby boomer men can still probably beat up most Gen Z men.
Are we allowed to be proud of this or is that toxic masculinity?
Not been in school for like 20 years. Went and googled some new study methods because I once did a project which required researched about this stuff but it was only a small part of it.
So I found some site that was about “active recall” and stuff. I saw there was a template for notion so I just downloaded it (actually you just duplicate it and it syncs with your webpage and desktop app).
The sample page for how to use the damn thing was 90% of what I was try to cram into my head right before I downloaded it.
This is around 25% of the page.
I keep getting my mind blown every other day.
Idk why but I’m craving pizza bagels right now.
You clearly need more carbs and fats. Lol
After three months of ignoring me (and most of his coauthors lol
), my nitpicky advisor is back and agreed to meet with me today.
I need to quit the project, but I’m also really really nervous about confronting him about it
Gahh….
Nah fuck that. Ask him where the fuck he was for the last 3 months.
You post almost exclusively about your school/ grades… tbh it makes me question your sanity sometimes (no flame). You going to let you advisor just slide on by whilst fucking you over? I wouldn’t. Call his ass out like you give a shit about school.
And use those exact words.
His wife got very sick for a while and he needed to catch up on backlogged work after that (aka his actual research
). I’m just a random undergrad he agreed to work with.
Funny thing, apparently some of his coauthors from other schools reached out to Loewenstein (very senior prof who’s not even in his department) complaining about nitpicky advisor’s absence.
I’m a third year preparing for grad school, my life basically revolves around school.
I mean, this project has no bearing on my application or school performance. It’s literally a project I started 2 years ago bc I was pissed at mum for always telling me that first impressions matter.
Tbh, I’ve been expecting him to drop this for a while. The problem is that 1. He hasn’t 2. He won’t spend 1 minute to write “I’m too busy, let’s stop this”
So it’s up to me to quit
Note: as much as I complain about him, he’s still an amazing person, and has been extremely helpful for grad school advice. The biggest problem is the large disconnect in working styles
This is where we disconnect.
Have you considered that his role is to advise and nothing more? He’s hardly fulfilling the advisory role, but it’s not going to be his job to 86 a project you’re working on. … it’s going to be yours.
Condolences for what his wife was going through but that does not absolve him of his responsibilities. If he was unable to perform his functions, he should have recused and allowed another to fill in.
update: I QUIT!!!
Congrats!
Was it was less terrible than you had imagined?
Confession:
I bought a 24 pack of Outshine fruit popsicles on Sunday, from Costco. There are fewer than half remaining.
yes. He was kind of disappointed since he thought my ideas “novel and interesting” but he understood when I told him my schedule next semester
He also didn’t give me more flak for wanting more econ so that was also very nice
Nice, those scenarios cause me ungodly amounts of anxiety but never turn out quite as miserable as imagined.
I’m glad that you are receiving feedback that your path is a) interesting b) sufficiently difficult/strenuous and c) headed in a reasonable direction.
Heretopopsicle
Yes.
Confession:
The memes are true.
Ever since people have noticed that I lift relatively heavy compared to what I look like, it’s guys that come up to me, not girls.
