Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

It’s the maths talk…

The same possibility of braggadocio still exists, especially if they’re dudes. They may be speaking to impress you, not inform or clearly communicate.

Then again, I only topped out at an A- in high school AP calculus 25 years ago. I couldn’t solve a first derivative without google if you held a gun to my head right now. Good luck with higher math!

I will say that having a great tutor was very helpful for me when I was a math student, and there’s not a whole lot you can do aside from getting more help and focusing more time on whatever you’re struggling with.

My parents had me spend a few hours per month for many years with a great tutor from a nearby university who was like an alien to me, but it worked. He was the first and only Sikh dude I’ve ever gotten to know and he was very good at putting everything into terms I could understand and apply in problem-solving.

Or, depending on how your lifting is going, you could try bullying these superior students into doing your work for you with some of the goon tactics I’ve detailed in the combat thread.

Oh. I NEVER go into a hard class without full support :joy: I passed diff eq (A) and intro pure maths so far thanks to my maths friend and hours of studying over break

I am much better at collecting ppl/resources than doing Econ/maths.

I confess that it sounds to me like you know what you need to do and shouldn’t worry too much about other students.

Unless, that is, you’re ready to focus on their weaknesses in single combat. With enough training and enough violence, you can eventually use the threat of violence to bend these so-called “Economists Who Know Math” to your will.

My understanding is that, when they fear you so much they submissively urinate, that is “trickle down economics”

Anna, I am almost certain that twojarslave is 100% right- they are trying to freak you out. Why? If I had to guess-

Make themselves look smarter.
It’s fun to freak out your juniors.

That’s why I think the most important thing to learn while in college is to learn how to have an open mind and to learn how to think

I recently found out I fall into an actual category IT nerds have. I’m a command line nerd lol. It actually makes no sense since one of the things I suck most at other than facial recognition is languages.

A fun update for anyone who remembers this anecdote:

This is the wildest thing. So, this strange older dude was supposed to be out of the building by March 24th or something like that. His one-year lease expired, and my landlord did not offer a renewal given concerns from me and others.

But he has not left yet. He became problematic enough that my landlord took him to court last week. The guy is supposed to leave on or by the 15th, but even then that is no guarantee (I’m not familiar with forced eviction laws in my state).

The whole ordeal has been especially annoying because I was trying to help my friend whose living situation turned upside down to take this guy’s place in my building. I had to show my unit because he refuses to leave. Thankfully my friend signed a different lease, as he could not wait long enough for the court case to unfold, but that was frustrating.

Older guy is still super weird yet thankfully stopped leaving his door open like I described about a month ago. Still uncomfortable to see him in the building or around the neighborhood. I’m going out of town for a bit soon and will be a little displeased if he is still here when I return.

I lost my AirPod case today, pretty bummed out about it cause my older brother gave those to me awhile ago. Anyone have any recommendations for good wireless headphones (that are good for the gym). Might as well get something I can’t lose rather than spending 80 bucks on some case.

You looking for headphones or earbuds? I’m a huge Skullcandy fan. Indy Evo buds have been my go-to for a long time.

I bought these and couldn’t be happier.

Pro tip: Buy them from best buy and get the 2 year warranty. Make sure you break them before the 2 years is up and you’ll get refunded the original payment amount to go update your earphones with.
^ This works well for all electronics BTW. Particularly with laptops/computers, knowing they become out-dated within 2 years of purchase anyways… Nobody better tell GeekSquad my secrets.

This tactic is a shitty power play and not much more. It’s people trying to either feel superior or intimidate you. Or both.

I interviewed at one of the most desirable companies in my area while still in college. It was an extremely competitive interview process where you go through panels against 15 or so other candidates vying for 3-4 open jobs. I figured I had no chance based on the way they talked and bragged about their achievements/credentials/skills. Ended up being the first to get a spot because most of them were just blowing smoke and talking a big game. That and most good employers don’t want braggarts in their offices.

TL;DR - stay the path and build your job/people skills. If you’re human and honest in your work you won’t have any trouble.

I was looking for headphones but those earbuds you mentioned fit within my budget

Their first batch sounded great but was a reliability nightmare. So bad that Skullcandy extended the warranty to like 2 years. My replacement ones sound even better and are holding up. Could be worth it man. Sound is better than GarageRockerette’s airpods.
