I will always think the Spartans are cool. However, there’s also this
Axes and war hammers are some of the most brutal weapons in my opinion.
Just think about taking a big old hammer to beat down one’s enemies with. It’s way more commitment to violence than a stab with a pointy metal stick. That takes a different kind of attitude than most (including myself) could likely muster these days.
I confess it is rather odd that all of the modern Spartan imagery is associated with positive virtues, and not the fact that Sparta was one of the most oppressive slave states in history.
Luckily we can still enjoy Spartan races, mow our lawns with Spartan mowers, control pests with Spartan mosquito eradicator and watch movies like 300. For now, anyway. Nobody can tell the woke-scolds that they have a new thing to be outraged about.
Dude, one of our local sports teams here are “The Mavericks”
Sure: let’s pluralize maverick.
Ready-fire-aim
Max test day is tomorrow. I confess I’m more nervous for that than I was for any of my exams
I confess I don’t know if college and university is the same thing in the USA. Is the college equivalent to a European university for example? Are the universities that aren’t colleges in the US?
So, I thought I knew what the difference was, then realized that I evidently didn’t know after I read this-
So the difference seems to be that universities MUST provide a graduate level program, while colleges are not required to.
All the time. I get both the dumb lifter and dumb redneck assumptions. Most of the time I have no reason to try to correct the image because it’s an advantage being thought to be dumb when you’re not. May hurt the ego a tiny bit but it’s a fun thing to play into. Maybe that’s just my inner sociopath ![]()
I raise you a Hulk Hogan mustache.
Hell yeah brother. Mine is usually just a trash stache ![]()
I was just randomly watching these CrossFit competition videos. Not sure why CrossFit gets made fun of on social media, these guys are strong and conditioned. Lol respect ![]()
Average CrossFitter and pro CrossFitter are worlds apart. The pros are insanely in-shape athletes.
Pretty much like every other sport.
Omg I asked a friend from the US this exact same question yesterday. Fuck I’ll even show you a screenshot if you want verification lol. Go buy a lottery ticket.
I am fucking pissed. Hit an easy single at 100. Failed attempts at 110 then 105kg on squat so for “meet purposes”, My squat hasn’t improved.
Im going to try 105 again
Edit: failed.
Hit 65kg paused on bench. Failed 70 touch and go
Experienced more in high school than as an adult, which may be partially due to being in a career field that has a large amount of people who lift.
In High School, I was a pretty competitive athlete. 4th in state wrestler, captain of the football team. Everyone kind of assumed I was the dumb popular jock, cause I did fit most of the wickets. I also scored a 35 on my ACT, 99 ASVAB, and had straight A’s through multiple honors and AP classes. I didn’t really pick up on people thinking I wasn’t the brightest until college acceptance letters started coming in, and some people were VERY surprised ( and very vocal about it) by the schools I got into, which was equal parts amusing and offensive.
That being said, my friends knew I was smart, anyone I ever interacted with personally knew I wasn’t an idiot. Having strangers assume your aren’t as bright can be a bit of an advantage, and if nothing else you can always disprove their ideas about you later.
I’ve been spending a lot of time with the econ grad students lately
HOLY CRAP, the more time I spend with them, the less confident I feel about being able to survive if I were to get in next year…
Students tend to grossly over exaggerate their work load.
You will be fine.
It’s not the workload.
It’s their conversations. Even the first years are talking about stuff that goes completely over my head
Just wait until you start working in the field! You’ll realize 90% of what you learned has no application and did nothing but line your university’s pocket.
This whole college thing sure is an interesting game…
I’m here to confess that I’ve sometimes deliberately put things into complicated and confusing terms to achieve this very effect.
I see two likely possibilities here. I suppose it is possible that these towering intellects may understand the subject matter thoroughly and are discussing it in clear terms that make sense to subject matter experts, but not to you. I doubt that’s what’s going on from what you describe.
The more likely possibility is that they are trying to sound impressively smart and looking for the validation that smart people are addicted to like crack.
