I confess that I’m well-traveled in the lower 48 and have tried many of the best regional burger chains. They’re all really good in their own way, and all worth stopping at if you like a good cheeseburger.
Five Guys is the best in my area, followed by me, followed by the owner of the bar I worked at, but none of the other people who worked there.
One less well-known but most memorable regional burger chains for me would be the fantastic Schoops. For sure my favorite spot growing up in Indiana. They’ve been making smash-burgers since before it was cool. Similar to a Culver’s burger.
Cant speak to culvers vs in n out or jack in a box, but jack in a box is basically mcdonalds, burger king, and taco bell all mixed up together. Good fries, decent burgers, and also tacos to go. Nothing special though.
Cali natives are going to be mad, but when i finally got a chance to eat in n out - it was okay at best. I mean better than most fast food places, but still only okay tbh. Not worth the 10 minute wait.
Chic fil a has stood its ground as #1 fast food chain though. And i can occasionally fit it into my macros
In n Out was a very disappointing experience the two times I tried it. The first time I ate Five Guys I got a greasy bag of cold fries and thought it was awful, but it turned out to be Ok the second time.
I’ve eaten here twice, and was extremely unimpressed each time. Once was in the Denver airport. Are airports just not as good? Maybe.
I think many will disagree with me but I, having had Popeye’s three times now, think it’s wayyy better than Chick-fil-A. I love it. I feel like that debate was held on here before, and like most people didn’t like it though.
I found that you need to eat Five Guys the moment the food comes out for the “best” experience. Otherwise it’s a greasy, sloppy mess what with how they bag their fries and how their burgers are stacked.
I don’t get the love for In N Out either. It’s good, certainly, but it’s not what people make it up to be. I agree with T3hPwnisher- the hype is far too great. 4x4 is a pretty cheap way to eat a bunch of meat quickly though.
I had Culvers in AZ, same trip I had In n Out. While they are different, I liked them both. I probably would choose Culvers over In N Out.
Five Guys is good except they overcook their burgers. Still good. SmashBurger is also good, as is Shake Shack - just realize why it’s called Shake Shack.
Burgerville USA is a good regional chain in the PNW.
Tripple meat with cheese plain and dry. Ask for 4 ketchups (regular). Put one whole pack on the burger then use the other 3 to dip the burger in.
Does it sound weird? Yes.
Do I realize you’re not 6 and enjoy things on your burger? Yes.
Will you be blown away at the taste from something so simple? Yes.
Has everyone who’s been brave enough to try my way fallen in love and never gone back? Yes.
Will you write this off as dumb and continue ordering normal? Probably.
I’ll know who tries this, because they will come back and thank me.
I freaking love Whataburger. The sausage BOBs are one of my favorite meals period. My go-to after football game meal in high school was a quadruple meat/quadruple cheese with mustard only. Being fat now, I just get a double/double with onion rings.
It can’t be. Regular Chic-Fil-A has a line 1/4 mile long and has no choice but to serve fresh fried chicken. I doubt it is this way with the airport but I could be wrong.
I’m not saying it’s amazing, but it’s reasonably ‘healthy’ and great fast food. I will say Popeyes is 10/10 too though, but i have a hard time calling it “fast food” because there’s no way you’re eating it and driving at the same time. Agree that Popeyes is better than Chic-Fil-A, but disagree on premise of “fast food”.
I confess that I still don’t understand Maine’s obsession with Dunkin Donuts. Their coffee sucks, their donuts suck and even their breakfast food is just crap from the freezer. They are a public nuisance, causing traffic disruptions on the roads shared by fully human people who like good or even decent coffee.
You can get a better breakfast sandwich and coffee from most gas stations for 1/2 the price, but these dumb rubes line up around the block to pay a premium price for bitter, stale coffee that is the type of stuff I imagine the Russian army gets supplied with.
Your Hoosier is showing man. It’s not about the product, it’s about the culture.
Now that the jokes are over, I’ll join you in griping about Dunks. Most of the locations near me are closing at unreasonably early hours, like 3-4pm. I know for a fact I’m not the only guy who’s occasionally jonesing for a bad cup of coffee in the afternoon.
I order a large iced coffee with 1/2 the recommended cream most day from Dunkin. It is not good but a) it gives me an excuse to leave the house and b) is reasonably cheap compared to other offerings. I’ve had a few of their food items and they are decidedly mediocre. On a similar note, Starbucks coffee is also trash.
Idk man, born and raised New Englander and have lived here my whole life. I’ll drink Dunks coffee all day but their food is an affront to all things edible.
I agree, and admit, I just finished some Popeye’s about an hour ago. I didn’t get the sandwich, but that is the best fast food chicken sandwich I have had so far.
Who doesn’t want way to cold in the winter, yet way to hot and humid in the summer.
We do have a very nice fall though. Summer is great if you like fresh water activities. Lots of lakes to play with.
Up north, there are areas that look like this for miles on end.
