Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

You would get that inflated ego checked if you came to the us :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

There seems to be a trend on here of pushing reps to the limit of squats and deadlift

I confess that no matter how beneficial it might be to test my limits, I’m simply unwilling to go there. I like my low reps and long rests

I could say I’m ā€œmaking a decision given health problemsā€ but in reality, I’m just lazy and don’t want the pain

There’s a fake ā€œhardcore lifterā€ element at play here. Most of the people that talk about lifting this way do so because it’s the only intensity they’re exposed to. Same as the people that dry-scoop their preworkout on camera to look tough. (No, not complaining about people that do it out of necessity).

Fixed it for you.

I get irrationally angry when people describe a comment as ā€œsavageā€ or that someone got ā€œroastedā€ or ā€œdraggedā€. Guys, we’re just saying slightly mean things to each other, let’s not pretend this is something meaningful.

Haha that’s possible (and sounds comfortable).
Are buses wider in total to allow for bigger seats?

I also lump ā€œslamā€ and ā€œcondemnā€ into this. Mostly revolving around news reporting on politics, but equally chickenshit in all forms.

I’ve seen people recently describe saying slightly mean things on the internet as ā€œdraggingā€ or ā€œput in body bagā€, like this is some fight to the death in the Coliseum. I totally get that using hyperbole in writing is useful and makes things more interesting but at a certain point, we’re taking social media a bit too seriously

Fixed it

I have a regular bar I frequent. In the bar there is a narrow choke point, that recently I have to walk through at an angle. This makes me happy.

I confess it took me 3 re-reads before I realized ā€œbarā€ referred to ā€œestablishment that serves alcoholā€ vs a piece of equipment utilized for strength training…

I confess I finally did 20 rep breathing squats at 275lb yesterday and thought I was going to die. I’m not sure if i’m proud of myself for doing it, or terrified I was dumb enough to try, but I confess my feelings towards this exercise are mixed.

@T3hPwnisher idk how you do this shit regularly man, I can’t imagine a more painful way to die (sarcasm, kind of)

Dude, I haven’t done breathing squats since 2006, haha. F**K…that…

You know, I could’ve sworn I saw this in your log, but maybe my mind just replaced all your actual training info with the most pain-filled exercise I could think of.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, if I saw 20 rep breathing squats in your log - I wouldn’t think it to be out of place lol

The thought crossed my mind during my second round of Building the Monolith, but I ended up going with a more traditional widowmaker to prep me for Deep Water on the follow up.

Breathing squats just suck. SO much. I got the itch for them again, but fitting them into the programming will take some doing.

I confess that I caught Covid and managed to throw my back out coughing. The back is currently worse than the Covid.

I read a paper today.

We starting to get overwhelmed when I realized that it was all just basic probability and algebra.
This is the first time I paper just clicked like that. I am sooo happy

I confess idk what a breathing squat is. I googled it and it said a set of 20 that is your 10RM. But if it’s your 10RM then it’s either impossible or you suck bad at pushing yourself

No, you read that right.

Take your 10RM for squats, and you’re going to do 20 of them in one set. Take a few breaths in between reps, and no matter how long it takes - you don’t rack the bar until you’ve reached 20 reps.

EDIT:
It has little to do with what your 10RM vs 20RM is, it has everything to do with how good you are at enduring pain.

Then it’s not your 10rm. It’s your 20rm. Maybe I’ve been squatting (when I did) wrong. Hell I still do it on hack squat. The heavy shot usually gets multiple pauses with breathing trying to convince myself to do another rep, even then I give up before I really give up lol

I tried 20 reps with my true 10RM (315) and failed right after 10 lol. That being said, it’s a tried and true method to getting tougher and stronger. I believe it was a Tom Platz thing originally (I very well could be wrong here), but it’s in Super Squats and DoggCrapp training too.

They wouldn’t use it if it didn’t work :man_shrugging:
