Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

If they paid more to have carry on, the airlines are not going to have them sit in the back. Because I paid for the tickets that allow carry on during my Thanksgiving travels, I found myself boarding earlier than I have in the past.

I’m also pretty sure that the seats right behind 1st class/business are now “extra space” type seats where, you guessed it, people have to pay more.

Good luck wishing for the airlines to jump through hoops for the people that are probably paying the least amount of money overall.

FIrst class is a rip-off, but only because everything is overpriced - first class is somewhere in the vicinity of 60x better than economy. A fraction of the people, enough room to stretch your legs out, gourmet meals, unlimited alcohol, etc. - I was upgraded frequently during my military-scheduled red-eyes.

I get that it’s frustrating to sit near toddlers that are dealing with pressure changes and confinement for the first times in their lives, but keep in mind that for the parents, when the plane lands and your interaction with them ends, the parents’ ordeal is just beginning.

Eh, I’m sure it can be hellish to sit next to one but what else can the parents do? My mom flew from Mpls. to Amsterdam when we lived in Germany. I think I was only a few months old and that’s a roughly 8 (?) hour flight. I probably cried at times but what were her options? Sailing? lol

Do you have a favorite backpack? @anna_5588 was recently talking about needing a new one. Someone recommended she look into Osprey, which is a solid choice. There are several other good pack makers, but I don’t want to deluge her with info. My favorite for fit and durability is Mystery Ranch, and I like the looks of Tom Bihn, Alpha One Niner, and Evergoods for organizational abilities.

@anna_5588 don’t be afraid to try different bags and spend more for quality; a good backpack is exponentially more comfortable and better for your body.

Two confessions:

I was irrationally proud that my doctor yesterday kept pushing to see if I was on steroids (I have always been natural). I took it as a compliment.

I saw new definition in my obliques this morning. I have not had that in a long time. The confession is that although I have never really wanted a 6 pack, I am starting to wonder if it is actually possible for me to achieve.

I know this is flame free, but if ya’ll want to charge me for the weight of my luggage you will have to take it from me first

Do you pack clothes or just food? lol

I wear all my clothes for the trip, like a sherpa guide.

No one wants to take it from you! Well, maybe the chocolate…although I have a bar of 92% in my pantry, which has been there for like two years, and…I have to be pretty desperate.

How can you not like macadamia nuts?

Is that what those are? Regardless, I don’t like macadamia’s. Nor cashews. I’m funny that way.

Pecans too. And pistachios. And sun butter. And beef jerky.

You must have expensive taste, haha

Hahaha! Is THAT what you think distinguishes us?? I do like pistachios, pecans, and jerky. But also food served on a plate.

I buy a plate when I arrive. Classes things up

I have two Osprey bags that have held up nicely for 2+ years.

I have a 40 L Fairview that I don’t usually take for travel because it does not meet the criteria for most airlines (though most domestic ones don’t actually measure the dimensions, so I could probably get away with it). Instead I use it for major grocery hauls, and the bag still looks brand new. I’m impressed.

I use a 32 L Nova more frequently. It’s my work and travel bag. There are two bottle carriers on each side, and unfortunately one of them has a couple holes – still usable but probably don’t want to force a larger bottle in there anymore. Besides that and the logo fading a little bit, the bag looks like new. It’s not as comfortable as the Fairview but still a great bag. I’ve used it as my only bag on trips that last a little over a week. I’m sure I could stretch that further.

Thanks for mentioning the other brands.

Confession: Personally I don’t know how all of you on here, that give advice, are so patient.

I used a 40L as a carry on that was stuffed to the gills. I legit had to beat, push, kick, and slam that thing in the bin. I actually didn’t think it would fit lol

It’s being a parent - it’s the great teacher of patience.

It comes with age. The more practice you have the better you get at it. Also, the more you see how everyone (yourself included) is flawed/has quirks, the less you tend to hold it against people.
