Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

For me, conditioning is like flossing: I don’t enjoy it, and each time it’s time to do it, I have a mini-argument with myself about whether I can skip it just this once because I don’t feel like doing it. Then I reflect upon the huge dental bills I’ve run up over my lifetime–because as it turns out, skipping health-promoting behaviors on a just this once basis occurs a lot more than once over the long term, and produces cumulative negative effects that can come back to bite you (ahem). Then I do the damn conditioning (as well as floss that night).

I confess I was very happy when I realized it is Wednesday, which means no big lifts today.

I confess I was also very sad when I realized that meant running instead.

well at least you are running

It just dawned on me that there are “accidental economists”.

If you think about it, High level weightlifting attempt selection/strategy is quite an interesting and complicated game theory problem

I confess I am obsessed with this youtube channel

I’ve watched this man eat 30 McDoubles in 30 minutes, 30 Whoppers in an hour, 30 PBJs in 30 minutes, and I’m about to watch him eat 100+ eggs with a bunch of cheese. And I can’t stop.

I also confess we are putting up our Christmas Tree the day after Halloween.

That I STILL have a fridge full of pumpkin spice yogurt, and I will keep that going until the stores kick me out

That my birthday is coming up soon and I am SUPER excited for my dinner at a cheeseburger restaurant, because I’m a cheap date…and the Mrs is going to make me a sunbutter pie using stevia for my birthday cake because I am California yuppie scum.

Follow up to my previous post: I believe I am going to go with this one:

Cool company, cool board and I reached out and they said it should hold my big ass.

It’s either this one or the beer can boards that are made from recycled aluminum and are rated to 350lbs.

Confession: I will probably bust something attempting to learn how to steer this thing.

Have you ever done any board sports?

No, but have always wanted to. I attempted snowboarding once.

Given our advanced age (no longer willowy teens) and non-Wolverine like healing abilities I would have no problem padding up a little, at least on the elbows, palms, and head.

Of course “when I was a kid”… That just meant you were any number of pejoratives and absolutely not cool.

Now it makes more sense.

Oh yeah, helmet, knee and elbow pads are definitely happening.

Confession:

I hate lying leg curls. They just don’t feel right. From “mounting” the machine, to the pad slipping down my leg as I do the exercise, to fact my face in the seat as I do them (the gym I go to has a dual purpose curl / extension machine so my face is where your back side was).
I just don’t get them. And I suck at them.

I have only found ONE lying leg curl machine that doesn’t hurt and I enjoy using. Even the one I own I can’t use lol

I’m too short to use most machines :joy:

I’m subscribed to the newsletter for the “governing body” of my field.
Lots of unis post job openings.
Whenever a German uni posts something, I like to imagine applying and going

Also - confession:

I’m trying to add in hanging leg rises. But I’m struggling. As I bring my leg down I have so much momentum that I just swing back a lot. meaning that the up swing is 90% momentum. It is another exercise I just can’t seem to get right.

Is there any way to limit this? Any “cue” to stop me from just flailing around?

Don’t have any personal tips for you, as I’ve never put much effort into the movement, but I remembered this article…maybe it’ll help? My apologies if you’ve read it before and it has nothing useful for you, haha.
