Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

I feel bad now. I have two three benches and two racks I don’t use sitting out in the rain right now. I woyld have gladly given them to you.
Or traded for the shoe!

I appreciate the thought! Still - this was more of an experiment for me. Middle of a strict program with a specific diet recommendation involving barbell lifts and a pandemic strikes, and I found out there’s a big difference between “I can’t do this” and “It’s gonna be really annoying to make this happen, but it’s possible.” If my rack decides to prove me wrong and fail, I’ll holler at ya, if I don’t die.

It’s not stable enough that you can slam the bar back against it in the bench, or especially in squats when you’re hitting the top part of the rack, but as long as the weight comes down, a 4x4 post will support thousands of pounds. Just gotta have a level to make sure it’s straight up and down. You can get a level for 15 or 20 bucks. Less if used, but it’s worth it to have a level anyhow.

From now on the problem for me will be to physically get the stuff though (read the coronavirus thread to know what I’m talking about).

Even Amazon put up a warning saying that shipping of non-critical items will be delayed to prioritize important purchases.

I don’t know, I really think that the two dumbbells, the kettlebell, and the pull up bar I already have will have to do it.

I can’t wait to get back in the gym, but I can see how getting back there will suck and feel like being punched in the face. I’ll probably start a routine heavily focused on bench, squats, and deadlift to bring back the heavy weights and give my body the kind of stimulus I need in order to get back to where I was and then grow. I can’t wait for this to be over.

I think you already have a setup that can be used, and you weren’t on any program beforehand, plus you’ve already been working out. Plenty of people have gotten jacked with less than what you have already. Definitely not a criticism of you, just sharing.

I’m pretty sure it’s manlaw that one must have a level of some sort in their domicile.

It doesn’t matter if it’s part of a tool, a torpedo level, or what ever, or that it may never be used. But it must be there.

Bonus if it involves lazers.

I literally need one, because I have some fucked up paradox about me whereby I can see when something is half a millimeter out of alignment but can’t ever find the spot where it’s right, so it helps me not go crazy from time to time.

You might also need one of those nice dead blow hammers then too. :joy: And some clamps.

The little tappy tap makes things just right!

You continue to be the Australian cattle dog from my childhood, haha. Just keeps making your BtM part of the blog all the more awesome.

It will. And you won’t shrink or get weaker. You might even find that you’re stronger when you get back under the bar.

Bench substitutions - floor press, fly’s, push ups, lots of options

Squat subs - single leg squat, lunges with all the load on the working leg (wear socks on a hardwood floor or put a furniture slider under your support foot if you’re on carpet)

Deadlift subs - good mornings, RDLs - single leg or kickstand, hip thrust, etc

Single joint work might just make you better. I’m almost back to normal from my shoulder surgery and my “injured” arm is working better than my “good” arm on certain exercises.
