So I’ve been taking fish oil capsules (Solgar), as per John Berardi at about 7.2 grams of combined EPA and DHA per day (divided into three doses, always taken at the beginning of a meal). Has taking fish oil resulted in anyone else having – how shall I put this – muddy waters (if you know what I mean)?
None here, and I take upwards of 12g per day, plus a gulp of flax before bed…perhaps you have a rotten bottle of pills.
No problems here
Is this a typo? According to Solgar’s website, their cod liver oil caps contain only 81mg combined of DHA and EPA? That’s a lot of caps!
Also, how do you guys supplement with capsules? Don’t they get damn expensive? I take Dale Alexander’s cod liver oil, and it runs me a little over a dollar per day. The cheapest caps I find are at LEAST 5x more expensive. Do you guys spend $5-$6 per day on fish oil?
Nope, I take Solgar’s Omega-3 “700,” which has 360 mg of EPA and 240 mg of DHA per capsule.
Anyway, I’m not sure what it is – maybe it isn’t the fish oil – but something has been giving me the old mudslide effect lately.
You can get fish oil caps really cheap from Sam’s Club.
Better than $.14/gram?
its been said once and ill say it again. you cant get enough epa/dha safely from cod liver oil due to the high concentrations of vitamin A which can very well be toxic
Assuming we’re on the same page(shittin’ through the eye of a needle?), I know what you’re talking about. I’ve never had the problem, because I was aware of it. A lot of my friends have been struck with the problem, and it all stems from a fast increase in omega 3’s.Most people’s body’s can’t digest the high levels of omega 3’s right off the bat(from my experience, not sure why).Try taking a half teaspoon 2 or 3 times a day,and try to slowly increase it week by week until you reach your target.Hope this helps.
Try another brand. I take 6 grams. I made the mistake of once taking GNC because it was on sale and I ran out of my Dale Alexander’s. Ugh! I got the same thing you did. Then I took a bottle my mom had in her kitchen from an unknown brand. It got worse. Went back to Twinlab/Dale Alexander and the problem disappeared.
kilosports is unbeatable for prices on most things…1000 caps for 30 bucks.
Hmm, I think it came out to around 6 or 7 cents per gram. I’ll check the bottles when I get home, but it was no more than 10.
Ok, the stuff I got from Sam’s is 1 gram of EPA and DHA per capsule. 300 capsules to a bottle, $7 for the bottle. That’s approximately $.02 per cap, or $.16 a day (at 7 g per day). I think that’s a pretty good deal.
Wow, that’s great. Look’s like I’m heading to Sam’s soon. Thanks for the info.
Hmm, I think you may be a bit off. According to Consumerlabs.com, Member’s Mark has 1gm of fish oil per cap, only 300mg of which is DHA or EPA, so actually it comes to about $.54/day, which is still really good, though. I just thought I’d tell you so you don’t shortchange yourself in your dosing. Thanks for the heads up, though.
