Just to clarify, Berardi’s recommandation is 6-10 grams (6,000-10,000 mg) of combined EPA+DHA per day. That’s different than the total amount of “fish oil,” and i’m not sure exactly what people might mean by the total amount of “fish oil,” as it sounds like a loose measure which is not clearly defined by the weight of each capsule, as some capsules might have some amount of filler or gelatin or something in them as well.

Actually here: http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=813735
Dr. Berardi says, “Recommended dose: Start with 6-10g per day of total fish oil (assuming 30% EPA and DHA).” so 2-3g of combined EPA and DHA. Does he say differently elsewhere?
Is anyone going with the 30-45g per day and noticed a marked benefit?
Yeah, maybe the “start with” clause is the kicker in there. Somewhere he mentioned 6-10 grams of combined EPA+DHA as being ideal. Give me a little while; I’ll try to dig it up.

How many of you guys eat fatty fish on a regular basis? Like salmon, mackerel, trout, etc?
Well I almost never do.
Is this question fishing (excuse the pun) for something? I know you’ll probably say we don’t need much fish oil, or any at all, if we routinely eat fish. This is true. The difference is you’d need to eat fish every single day in order to not benefit from a fish oil supplement.
If you meant something else or were really just curious about the fish eating habits of T-Nation members I apologize. :)
Oh, I was just curious. It’s pretty obvious that you don’t need too many fish oil caps if you’re eating fatty fish on a regular. I know I don’t. I know if I was more disciplined I’d be eating fatty fish almost every day. It’s mad easy to make… through it in the oven with some lemon juice, salt pepper, maybe some dill or parsely or onions or some shit… bake and voila, easy healthy moderately tasty food!

On a side note, I’ve heard that very high doses of omega-3s (not sure exactly how high) can negatively effect the ole’ libido. Does anyone know why that might be, and at what dosage it becomes a concern?
Thanks.
fish oil also acts as a blood thinner. not too sure but it might be related.
thats also something you have to watchout for if you’re supplementing fish oil. if you take regular doses of fish oil(blood thinner), then decide to take some advil for your headache(also a blood thinner) it could lead to some problems…with very thin blood lol. you can figure out what very thin blood can do =P
Wild salmon is so expensive at my grocery store. They don’t have anything frozen and the canned stuff is farmed. What do you generally pay per pound?
I take 18g of Costco fish oil plus 4 caps of Flameout, usually over the course of three meals. I’m feeling damn good and I actually leaned out a bit over the holidays despite a less than stellar diet and gaining a few pounds. My anxiety seems abated as well.
