Fish Oil and A-Fib Risk

Interesting take from TC on fish oil supplements from earlier this year. The study he cites at the end of the article was from last year and if I’m reading it right, reports on randomized controlled trials.

Interesting from TC on a couple of levels.

I take fish oil (Flameout now and other brands before). But I also eat fish for dinner twice a week (salmon and white fish) and have anchovies a couple of times a week and skipjack tuna twice. Maybe I’ll follow Luoma’s lead and save a few bucks, as well.

I’ve taken Flameout for years. I originally started it in the hopes that it would help with some beat up joints. At the time, I wasn’t really eating much fish at all and when I did it wasn’t fatty fish. I’m now eating quite a bit more fish than I was and the fish I’m eating tends to be fatty. So I think I’m going to push pause on the fish oil supplements and see how I feel eating fatty fish 3-4 times a week.

That is an incredible about face.

It is. But the study only came out in May of 2023, so perhaps that led to him changing his mind. I do have a dim recollection of him having an interaction with someone last year when he was still on the forums about fish oil and afib risk but I can’t find it now. I can’t remember what his position was then.
