First Vehicle & Best Vehicle?

Well, I did what I said I wouldn’t do and bought the Maverick. It won’t hold its value as well, especially since I went new. The ride and specs were just so much better. Plus they had a color that matched my 911. Oops!?

With Toyota and Honda, it seems buying new almost makes more sense most of the time. They just hold their value so well, that 5 years of age, and 50K miles means it’s 3-$5K less than a new one.

I really like what Ford did with the Maverick. I am astounded at the base model’s price, and fuel economy (if the base is still the hybrid, they may have changed that?). I’ve also been in one, and it seemed pretty nice. When they came out, the base was rated at like 35ish MPG combined, and was under $25K. For a 4 door truck, that is amazing IMO. Sure it’s small, but that is the price of a compact sedan, which probably gets worse mileage.

If they don’t hold value, I may be in the market for a used one. I am not sure they will have the normal Ford depreciation though. Ford seems a bit better on quality lately, and with the Maverick, there is a lot of demand. Up here at least, you have to wait to get one. Not all Fords have dropped in value lately too. A used Focus RS will cost you almost what a new one was for example.

The good news is Toyota has said it will come out with a truck to compete with the Maverick. Maybe it’s not good news.

Best: ‘05 corvette, ‘22 TRX or my ‘19 Tacoma 6spd - hard to choose. They were all pretty great for different reasons

I’ve wanted to take a spin in that TRX. It must feel neat to motivate all the weight so quickly. It’s a beast!

It was unreal. I only sold it because I made $15k flipping it and was able to pay cash for my current truck - ‘23 Sierra

The problem is that the dealers are asking $2-5k over MSRP due to lack of inventory. I went with the upgraded Tremor pack with AWD because quite frankly they are seeking less mark ups in the higher end models. Makes no sense. Most dealers in FL also have a dealer fee of 900-1500. I was able to get the truck for $1500 over MSRP with all fees included. Felt like an “ok” deal for the current market anyway.

1986 Chevy Celebrity. Got it for free in 1996 when my Grandfather passed. It was mint with around 15,000 miles on it.

I think the most important thing for you to do at this point is move past whatever feelings of shame and regret you may have, and never, ever refer to your new Ford Maverick as a “truck”, because you didn’t buy a truck. You bought this other thing that isn’t a truck.

All kidding aside, a guy I work with has a Ford Maverick for his side business of pest control and it has been fantastic for his needs.

Had an 89 Camaro with T-Tops that was my first and favorite vehicle. I had a Wrangler Willy that I fucking loved, but now I drive GMC Acadia because we have kids and I refuse to drive a mini van.

First was a 1980 Honda Prelude that I bought after college in 1987 for $2K - monthly payment was $99 per month. Great car!

Favorite was a 94 Bronco XLT with a 5.8L. Still miss that truck.

It was such a great truck I was willing to suffer the inevitable connection. Luckily, mine was dark green and not white.

First vehicle - 72 Monte Carlo, 350 ci, 4 bbl, 12 bolt rear end, and an air horn.

Best Vehicle - 21 Miata. My wife and I take trips in it. Cool car to drive and maintain.

Worst Car - 72 Pacer, all I could get for $150 in 1983 to finish school. Damn thing sucked, broke down GAVE it for scrap to tow it away.

Did a lot of work with Siemen’s in Germany. The guy I worked with said Porsche is the only German car left. Own only Porsches…

That’s easy for me, my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT. It was actually fun to drive until the bills started piling up and I ended up getting virtually nothing in trade-in value for it.

Adding up it’s relatively high price, not great fuel economy and the exorbitant repair costs and short life, it ended up being more expensive to operate per mile than my 2014 Tundra has been if I were to sell it today. Even with the Tundra’s poor gas mileage.

I didn’t have the GT, but aside from a power steering pump and window motor (twice), I got decent mileage (22-25) and 140,000 trouble free miles on mine.

By any reasonable definition, my GT wasn’t a Grand Touring car either. I think it was around 180 horsepower.

Maybe when I’m retired and a hazard to other drivers on the road I’ll get a proper GT vehicle. The Lexus LC500 isn’t in my budget this year but a used one may be down the road.
