I saw the posts in this section and thought it’d be a great way to get some good feedback from the collective experience of the folks I see on this site. I’ve been reading for a while, but I thought it might do me well to get involved on these forums. Most of my training has been molded from this site…so why not use it for critique as well?
I do ask that you be as honest as possible, but maintain constructive criticism.
The only “before” shot I can really do is from when I was much younger, but I’ll also include a more recent photo.
I wouldn’t say I was “serious” about my training until after I finished grad school and moved to Rochester NY…and decided I wanted to do a show after watching my teammates from College starting to do the same.
All of my diet and training is self-created, with the techniques and knowledge coming from the work of Layne Norton, John Meadows, Christian Thibaudeau, Bob Paris, and a few others.
Without further ado:
and here’s some from the show…I’m not sure how to embed multiple pictures yet…sorry.
Does anybody have anything to say?
Thanks again
I don’t think you’re getting any commentary because A) you didn’t state a single goal, and B) Physique judging is all over the map, so it’s hard to give advice on what to improve.
To me, it looks like you could have been leaner on stage, but since physique judging is inconsistent, this may not have been a goal for you. Your traps look underdeveloped, but again, it’s physique. Your chest is a strong point, and your overall symmetry/shape is pretty good. You’ve only got one back picture, and from that it looks like your back is lagging the most. But it’s kinda shadowy, so hard to tell for sure, especially since your lats sort of blend into the background.
Based on your ‘before’ pictures, it looks like you probably didn’t have to diet very much to get in your stage condition. Honestly, that’s borderline offseason conditioning for some. Which may not be a bad thing, definitely maintainable year-round.
Anyway, if you want more constructive criticism, it may be useful to post some goals, or more details on your training/dieting styles.

I don’t know jack about Physique Show and I think that goes for most guys. You look like the average 24 y.o. out on the beach. What do you want someone to say?
I’ll admit the lighting’s not great on the back shot…here’s another relatively new shot.
As far as goals, I’d like to continue in physique but transition into bodybuilding over time as my training continues. I’ve been sports-based most of my lifting time and don’t necessarily have the muscle mass/maturity to backup my lifting numbers. I’d like to maintain and increase strength slowly, building size in proportion as a higher priority.
I shoot for between 2800 and 3000 cals normally, 170-200g Protein, 100g fat, 250-300g carbs.
I have dieted as low as 1800 cals, but as you saw, i came in pretty flat and only flattened as the show progressed (i lost nearly an inch everywhere as the day went on from lack of carbs…rookie mistake). I’ll be addressing this come the next show and won’t diet as hard.
I also wasn’t quite as lean as I would’ve like to be, partially due to the idiotic carb deficits i put my body through the week before the show. A great example of how fear trumps research and common sense.
I really appreciate the criticism, so pile it on. I realize the vast majority of you don’t know the ins and outs of men’s physique; all i ask is an honest assessment (as Flipcollar obligingly gave). I’ll post a few of my training sessions for feedback as well.
Thanks again
Last night’s leg training:
Squat 5/3/1:
Barx15, 135x10(paused breathing squats), 185x5, 225x5, 245x5, 275x5, 315x8
leg curls:
50x12, 110x10, 100x12, 100x12, 100x10(half tempo)
RFESS:
57.5 DBx12, repeat, repeat, drop set with 25lb DB
This is lower volume than my typical leg workouts…I was in a hurry. I usually prefer to have leg presses and SLDL’s in between leg curls and RFESS’s.
