First Knee Sleeves

Bingo. I always shake my head when people say sleeves add anything to their squat. They can be good for warmth, but that’s about it. I recently stopped using them at all simply because I got the shits with wearing them. Squat didn’t go down.

I wear mine for every single training session now. I care more about having them for training than for actual competition. My joints are just so fried, I’m regularly wearing elbow sleeves, knee sleeves, and most of the time I wear neoprene shorts to keep my hips warm.

I squat deeper without them on and stability feels much better so I get a bit out of them… not 75lbs though lol

I don’t even get that much out of knee wraps.

There was a guy who posted his video on here a while back where he did an experiment to see how much knee sleeves added, if I remember correctly it was 20lbs per leg. However, the sleeves were ridiculously tight and he said he wouldn’t be able to wear them in a meet because they cut off his circulation. Anyone who is looking for actual carryover is better off using knee wraps.

Non! They were M and I’m only 125lbs .

Does nobody think that having insanely short legs and very long , supportive knee sleeves would not add a great deal to one’s squat? They basically did the squat for me lol

No, because that would be like setting an empty barbell on a folded knee sleeve and having the knee sleeve launch the barbell into the air :joy:

I would set up a mannequin leg, upside down with a knee sleeve on.

Bend the knee at a squat angle and put a loop around the ankle.

Hang tiny weights onto the loop.

Let go of the mannequin leg and see if it straightens out. Add/remove weight until you figure out how much it can move. You may need to play with the leg so it doesn’t resist too much on its own.

You will then know roughly how much force is being exerted by the knee sleeves.

This will tell how much of the 75lbs is the sleeves and how much is the craz… err placebo.

This must be done with safety goggles and lab coat. Bonus points for crazy hair and mad laughter.

I think most people assume a partly folded squishy bit of fabric isn’t going to do much.

You can do a crude version using @brady888’s idea. Just fold the thing in half, put a can of beans on it or something equally light and see it it shifts it (shift is different to knocks it off balance).

Not precise but should give you an idea if you’re getting closer to 1lbs than 50lbs.
