First Competition

Just arrived back from my first meet, the WSA Welsh Championships powerlifting, very good experience overall. Totalled 465kg in the 90kg class despite missing my squat opener by not waiting for the squat command! My lifts were:
SQ: 170kg - MISS (didn’t wait for command, got the lift itself); 170kg - Good lift; 182.5kg - MISS (went far too deep, otherwise would have had it easily)
BE: 105kg - Good lift (easy); 110kg - MISS (cramped up and lost focus); 110kg - Good lift (quite smooth)
DL: 165kg - Good lift; 175kg - Good lift; 185kg - Good lift (incredibly easy PR)
A shame that I couldn’t get closer to my records in the squat and bench, but first competition so not bad. Plus, great deadlift PR, and more in me!

(By the way, I will post videos when I have a chance, haven’t uploaded them yet)

Nice work! Too bad about the squat command, but hey it’s your first meet. Just out of curiosity, what are your squat/bench PR’s?

Squat 185kg in wraps three months ago (I was lifting w/o wraps, but have gained at least 15-20kg on my squat since then and can rep more now without wraps than I could then with) and 170kgx2x3, Bench 112.5kgx3 (hadn’t done a max single for a couple of months, but would estimate >115kg). Deadlift was previously only 173.25kg (yes, .25 lol) for a double.

I should add that I followed the Surovetsky deadlift program to peak DL, with the touch-and-go day conventional and the paused day competition stance (semi-sumo).
Also, I had no more than 3 1/2 hours sleep last night! Not good… Will have to find a way to fix that for my next meet in August (hopefully experience will be enough to relax me a bit!).

Good meet, and onto the next

Indeed, planning to compete at a similar meet on 10th August.
