First Bodybuilding Show. April 2012

Men’s Open Tall

Now I head backstage and I had a few minutes before the Men’s Open Tall went out for the awards. I pump up a bit more and wait. Finally, were up. The five of us are waiting to go on stage and one of the guys says “Let’s have fun up there!” And we did, it was probably my favorite part of the night. Because it was the Open, they seemed to let the pose off go longer. I did my best poses and really had a blast and we filed off stage.

I honestly would have been happy with fifth place in this class. The four other guys had great physiques in my opinion, I was just happy to be there with them. Well, they call out 5th and it wasn’t me, then 4th and 3rd. I seriously could not believe it. It was the EXACT opposite of the Novice Class. As I mentioned above, having seen the list and done some logical thinking, it appeared that I was the Novice Tall winner before I heard it announced. But with the Open class, I had no idea where I would place and did not expect to do so well.

I shook hands with the gentleman beside while we waited to hear who was second. They announced my name and my friends and family went nuts again. It was awesome. The gentleman who won the Open Tall class went on to win the Overall. I have no shame losing to him, he had a phenomenal physique and he truly deserved and earned his victory.

Final Results

1st Place - Novice Men’s Tall

2nd Place - Open Men’s Tall (losing to the Overall Champion)

Amazing work Tim, happy for ya, you definitely earned it. Looking forward to seeing pics. Congrats!

Post Show

After eating various simple carbs/sugars all day, I had no cravings. I just wanted water! On the way home I drank almost 1 gallon of water in 30 minutes. And my body just sucked it all up. By the time I went to bed, I had finished 5 quarts in less than 90 minutes!

I continued to really push the water on Sunday and I ate large quantities of my rice pudding (brown rice, whole milk, cinnamon and raisins). Not much junk, less than a 1 cup of mint chocolate chip ice cream was all the dessert I had. I guess I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. Not really any junky carbs either. I am boring in that respect.

I feel like I got hit by a train! Everything is sore. My glutes are killing me just from flexing on the contest day. I only pumped up my upper body so I expected it to be somewhat sore, but I guess I just flexed my glutes so often and so hard that they are just brutalized still two days later.

I will be training today, but just to get the blood moving. I feel like taking the day off, but I know my body and taking the day off will just leave me stiff and sore again tomorrow where as light training will start to get my body ready for more serious sessions later this week.

Weight is up to 173 today. I am continuing to try to really hydrate.

Here are the glutes/hamstrings on the day after (they looked just as good at the contest, but I didn’t get any good footage):

Well done!

And a great write up, looking forward to some photos!

What food did you reward yourself with when it was over?

This is a still shot from the video posted immediately above.

The detail looks better in the video, but it still captures the glutes pretty well.

Again, still shot captured from video. This one shows the hamstrings nicely.

My 7 year old took this picture of me Sunday morning with my trophies.

The one of the left is the 1st place trophy from Novice Tall

The one on the right is the 2nd place trophy from Open Tall.

Great write up Tim. Almost feels like I was there. Great job on the placings! What a way to start out in your first ever contest.

Again, congrats!!
Mike

With some friends outside the auditorium.

My nickname amongst them is “Beef RipRock”, hence the reason the one guy has “Beef” written on his stomach.

They also brought paper signs that said “Show us your Beef!” They are a fun bunch, lol!

Ahhh I need more recent updates!!! -lol For those of you reading along, don’t think for a moment that Tim screwed his conditioning. The lighting is a huge part of the fake tan augmenting how you look. Under the (very) hot stage lights, you can look amazing, yet once you come offstage, under normal, or even less than normal lighting, you may look dark and almost muddy (especially if you use dream tan like a lot of competitors do - never fully dries!)

I got faith, and yes, being in the middle is always a good sign

S
Thanks Stu, ha, ha, do I look that bad that you need to come to my defense?

That is one of the reasons I hate the spray tan, but you are right, under the stage lights, it’s completely different.

Don’t worry, I know that video sucked, but I wanted to have some video from backstage so I figured it was better than nothing.

Tim, stop teasing us and let us know about the contest

Once you’re done eating of course!
Ha, ha, you got me.

It was part teasing (wanting to just enjoy the moment) and part not having time to do a decent write up (church, relaxing with my 7 and 11 year old and going to a nephew’s birthday party last night)

Way to go Tim!!! Very proud of ya brother! 1st showing, and you knock it outta the park!!!

Hopefully you’ve gotten some good food in you, relaxed a bit (although I know that I never sleep the night after a contest, my body’s all messed up), and spent some truly deserved time with loved ones.

(Waiting on pics now -lol)

Thanks Stu! Hopefully you caught my shout out in the first video posted.

I am starting to feel normal. Stomach was slightly upset from drinking so much water so fast after the show so I didn’t sleep well Saturday evening and last night my oldest son was up with some sickness, so I am still craving a good night’s sleep!

I enjoyed spending Sunday with my family.

Thanks for checking in and following along! Your support and encouragement has been AWESOME!

Hopefully you guys enjoy the write up. Wallstrt almost felt like he was there, that was what I was going for.

Tim, great job and placings. Your write-up was great and sounds exactly like what I experienced last year: getting nervous during the polygraph for no reason, meeting great individuals at the show (once you get them talking), being sore and unable to sleep the next day

Your conditioning in the day after video was awesome (couldn’t really tell from the first one because of the lighting and tan). I hope this wasn’t a one time thing and that you continue to do more shows in the future. Enjoy yourself and take it easy this week. You’ve worked hard and you deserve it. Can’t wait to see contest photos or video.

Please eat a burger for me!

Edit: You also mentioned you were going to write about your deplete and carb-up. Not sure if that’s still coming, but I think it’s pretty common that you drop weight and get tighter as you add the carbs. Do you think you would still change anything after seeing the outcome?

Nice write up Tim, shredded to the bone for sure.

You had some of the same feelings I had in regards to feeling a little defeated with what you weighed, how big some of the other guys were, etc… So it sounds like thats normal. But Lets make sure WE are those bigger guys next time around!

It also sounds like you were much better about eating Sunday than I was… A mistake I wish I hadn’t made now. Oh well, live and learn. Combined with a couple of other dietary mishaps this weeks, I look much softer today. I would advise you to keep the screws somewhat tight, or you could end up a bit disappointed like I am today. You dont seem prone to eating “shit” like I like to do though, so you will most likely be crisp still.

I cant wait to see where you go from here, Tim.

Excellent write up! Definitely the sort of thing that makes me want to do a show myself (I will, eventually)

Edit: Great photos! Your conditioning is crazy and you generally look awesome (much “bigger” then your weight suggests, I suppose that’s the whole idea!). Absolutely no shame being second to the overall winner, guy was a beast.

Thanks Thoughts! Glad you enjoyed the write up, sorry for being a tease. : )

I looked the same the night previous, just couldn’t see it in that crappy video.

Saturday morning it was going to be a one time thing…but then I did well and had tons of fun. So I think there are more shows in my future. However, my personality is such that I don’t like to do something unless I think I can win, so I won’t do another show until I am at least 15 pounds of muscle (not bodyweight) heavier so I can compete with the overall champion from this show.

I actually ended up having a great workout today, handled decent weight (but still on the light side), just took me forever to warmup because I was stiff and sore.

Pictures are up, hope you like them. Unfortunately, no video or photography was allowed in the auditorium, so are left with the photos of the professional (but they are really nice, they just have his watermark across them).

I will probably enjoy a burger this week, my wife makes a mean burger and I’ll have some Dubliner cheese on it.

Yes, the write up for the carb deplete and load is still coming.

Great write up sounds like a fun expereince for the most part.

Congrats on kicking ass. Always fun when hard work can really pay off.

What are the plans now? In terms of diet and training?

I will be as big, or bigger than the other competitors next time. But, I will still bring shredded glute/hamstrings which NO ONE had except for the Overall Champion and myself. After this outing, I will not be satisfied with anything other than Overall Champ next time.

Yeah, I’m still crisp. Eating healthy for so long changes your habits and sweettooth. I can literally eat a carrot or red bell pepper and satisfy my sweet tooth. I was around ice cream cake at the birthday and didn’t have any. I did enjoy some mint chocolate chip, but it was just because I could, not because I was dying for it.

Now starts the road to getting HYOOGE!
